Mobile: Show "[user] is typing..."
Same as the web client, it's important to see this so messages don't get sent while one person is still finishing their thought.

Improve web accessibility
It would be great if the WCAG 2.0 guidelines could be implemented to help people with disabilities to use Mattermost.
This is an area that is often overlook, specially by the recent wave of chat platforms, so it's an opportunity for Mattermost to differentiate itself from the crowd.
39 votesThis is planned. Would anyone be interested helping with this effort as we create tickets for them?
It would be great to hear people’s feedback on what are the biggest gaps with accessibility currently.

Welcome message for new users
It will be nice that upon entering a team, a welcome message is displayed to that user. Message can be composed on the Team Settings or perhaps in the console.
In the message an admin can point out custom slash commands or any new feature that needs to be highlighted.
User can save the message (just like any other) for future reference is desired.1 voteWe have an APR ticket for this feature which can be tracked here: https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/PLT-1262

Create a Sandstorm app
Mattermost seems to be a good candidate for making a Sandstorm app. Sandstorm https://sandstorm.io/ allows for secure bottling of web-apps. Many of the apps currently in the ecosystem are complementary to Mattermost - in function and ideology.

Improve team viewing
If I am a member of multiple teams I can't see all the chats in one place. I need to switch between teams to use them. It would be much better if I could see all channels/chats for all my teams on one screen.
Perhaps this could be achieved by having a collapsable menu for each team on the left that contains all the existing team specific functionality like channels etc. This would also help improve the notifications when receiving messages from multiple teams.

Rename Group-Members locally
It should be possible for everybody to change the names of the Team-Members locally.

Search on all public channels
For now it only searches the channels that you have joined.
Maybe the info you are searching exists outside of the channels you have already joined.

Demo site
There should be a demo site with fake data.
Screen shots are nice, but to set up the app and then discover it's not for you, is a hassle.

Be able to set rules on the creation of the user name
When a user creates their username it would be good to allow admin to set any rules on this. For example if we want all users to use first.last name then we can set this as required.

Integration with owncloud
Integration with the on-premise, open source owncloud file sync and share would make mattermost a powerfull tool for team communication and collaboration. It seems the work on webhoks will enable this indirectly (https://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/8786968-add-slack-like-integrations) but it would be great if you could provide dedicated owncloud integration so that files stored in owncloud can be shared and linked to from mattermost conversations.

Any volunteers?

Support gitlab avatar
When a user signup using gitlab sso, it would be nice if mattermost imports the avatar image as the user's profile picture.

Make referencing/embedding attached images easier
It's already easy to attach an image simply via drag and drop or pasting it from the clipboard. That's great!
Unfortunately at the moment it is not possible to attach an image and directly reference/embed it in the message, so that it is shown in the text. You first have to send the message to get access to the image links.
The easiest solution would be, to provide image links even without sending the message, so that we can link manually.
The more sophisticated solution would allow me to click on the image which should then paste the image link…

Message automatic deletion a la snapchat
I'm trying Mattermost on a large organization as a professional communication tool surrounding but not overlapping formal previous communication tools that will remain (email, business specific tools, etc). To achive that, Mattermost messages are meant to be sended/received, read, and then expire and dissapear. We don't need a new static, searchable communication tool (yet on steroids), but a volatile one in order to support teams internal dynamics, but not to remain logged.
I've thougth of a sort of bot checking times been read or time from post on every message and deleting on checking pre-defined conditions, but this would be…17 votes -
CTRL+F on Windows Desktop app puts cursor in Mattermost search box filtered to channel
In the browser CTRL+F brings up text search for the page, so propose in the Windows Desktop app CTRL+F brings up Mattermost search pre-filtered to the channel to have a similar effect.
Other than the ability to search a page, the browser and desktop app have almost the same functionality.
Adding this would make the experiences more equivalent, rather than having desktop just slightly degraded.

Add Ability to allow webhooks in private channels
Add a control to allow webhooks to work in private channels. A per webhook control would be best, but an all or nothing would be a good start.
