Provide an option to only show channels with unread messages
We have a Mattermost installation where I'm subscribed to 24 channels, most of which are fairly quiet. Except for the channels that are at the top and bottom of the list (of course). I'm continually scrolling up and down.
I'd like to have an option that hides channels that have no unread messages. Hiding all-read private groups and DMs would be a bonus.
Thanks Brian and others for suggesting this feature!
We are considering to add a setting to hide all read channels in the sidebar: https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-7502
In the meantime, there are two features that can help your teams:
1) Mattermost v4.7+ supports a setting to group all unread channels at the top. This makes it easier to find all your unreads. It must first be enabled by your System Admin: https://docs.mattermost.com/administration/config-settings.html#group-unread-channels-experimental
2) Mattermost v4.9+ shows unread channels when using the channel switcher (CMD/CTRL+K)

Most features related to this are currently only for a team at a time. I'd like a list of all unreads across all my teams.

Another vote from me, my team began with few channels, but now that are channels are growing, this will be so much nice to have!

We just moved from Slack to MM - and this is the option most of us miss the most! A happy medium would be simply showing unread messages at the top, above channels, et al that do not have activity. Priority = mentions first, activity second, quiet last. The iOS app does this, but the Mac app does NOT yet. Thank you for your consideration!!

Regarding mimicking Slack, in particular, something like "Hide all channels etc., with unread activity, unless they are starred" (https://slackhq.com/simple-sidebar-tips-for-reducing-distraction-efc257fa6beb#.4t69i9bl0) would be great.

Would be great if this could mimic the behaviour in Slack.. We have more than 100 channels. Porting people over from slack , their first question is 'how can I hide all these channels?'
