  1. Some kind of user interface that showed messages to a person that have not been replied to by the recipient of that @ message.

I think it would be a great new differentiating feature in Mattermost if they had some kind of user interface that showed messages to a person that have not been replied to by the recipient of that @ message.

For instance we often have people who are not very responsive on Mattermost. You send a message “@person can you give me your feedback?” and of course often the person does not reply. Then you have to manually remember that the person didn’t reply, so the next day or two you send them a message “@person would you please reply?” and…

  2. Option to Disable Channel Sorting Based on User Join/Leave Activity

I would like to propose an enhancement to the current channel sorting functionality. Specifically, I would suggest making it possible to sort channels based on activity, while excluding user join/leave events from influencing the sorting order.

The current activity-based sorting is useful for keeping active conversations easily accessible. However, frequent user join/leave events can also cause channel reordering, which may lead to unnecessary disruption, especially in larger teams or public channels where such events are frequent.

  3. Add ESR URLs to the latest version redirects

The list of URLs at https://latest.mattermost.com/ that redirect to current Mattermost software is great. Doing an HTTP HEAD request on any of them shows the current semantic version in the Location header, great for checking for patch updates.

For some reason, ESR versions are not listed there. It would be very helpful for sysadmins if your list also had these:
    https://latest.mattermost.com/mattermost-enterprise-esr-linux
    https://latest.mattermost.com/mattermost-team-esr-linux
which could redirect to the versions marked as Extended Support Release on https://docs.mattermost.com/about/version-archive.html

  5. Chat left/right alignment

Does mattersmost have a feature to make chat like SMS or MSTeams, where the messages sent by yourself are aligned to the right side of the screen and messages from others are on the left side?

  10. @group request function for boards

In boards, there is a function to put an @username in the comments section which will notify the user their action is required on that board. However the board does not allow you to @usergroup or a specific channel. I am requesting 2 possible functions. 1. enable the ability to @usergroup so we don't need to @ specific users which may change out often. or 2. enable @ for a specific channel in the comments section of a board to send notifications to a channel that a new/existing board is requesting their attention. This will cut down the inundating task…

  12. upgrade to a version that supports creating custom user groups.

Custom user groups allow users to create groups within channels to enable more specific notifications within channels or communities. Mattermost documentation here: https://docs.mattermost.com/welcome/manage-custom-groups.html

  13. boards

An ability to preview documents within Boards similar to how documents can be previewed in channels (files). As a work around I currently export my PDF as images to allow myself and others to quickly view a document within a card without having to download an attachment and then view.

  14. Allow moving posts to, or between, threads

Currently, there is no way to move posts between threads. If you accidentally make a post not within a thread, or in the wrong thread, the only way to correct this is to delete the post and re-create it.

Even via the API, it only allows updating is pinned, message, has reactions, and props. No root id.

It would be nice to allow updating the "root_id" via the API. This allows moving posts to threads or between threads.

  16. Support readonly filesystem without errors

It is a best practice to run kubernetes workloads as readOnlyRootFilesystem. See https://kubernetes.io/docs/tasks/configure-pod-container/security-context/.

When running with such a security context, Mattermost will throw an error : Failed to update assets subpath from config.

This is the case even if the deployment is not served as a subpath.

My proposal is to add support for a readonly filesystem, by either :
    - Detecting when the SITE_URL is not affecting the subpath, thereby not raising an error and not trying to update the subpath
    OR
    - Writing the updated files to a different directory that can be mounted as a read-writable…

  17. make channel read-only for specific users (mute)

I'd like to have the ability to restrict users from writing in a channel without having to remove them altogether. Like muting them/making the channel read-only for them specifically.

  20. Use the preferred_username claim as the Mattermost username for OpenID Connect.

OpenID Connect (OIDC) has been added to the latest Mattermost Enterprise Edition. However, Mattermost seems to use the user's email address as the Mattermost username.

According to the OIDC specification, the standard response contains a preferred_username claim and the value of this field should be used as the user name.

When the preferred_username field of some IdPs is a mailbox (e.g. Google Login), only then is the mailbox prefix considered as the username.
