Read Receipts: Implement a visual indication for messages if and when they have been read by other users of the channel
Sometimes one's wondering if a post has already been read by other users. I could image that a member list of the channel pops up when one is selecting the read status from the particular post menu ("[..]").
In private chats, a sinple check sign (similar to whatsapp) could signalize if a message had beend read by your counterpart.941 votes
We’ve opened a design ticket to start exploring this feature: https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-36529
This will need feasibility explorations given performance concerns on the server-side. As a result, we may start by only offering read receipts in Direct Messages and Group Messages that have a maximum of 8 users.
Creating and participating in Polls would be great,
to be embedded within a message.

We are looking at bringing the features of the Matterpoll plugin into the core product with some user experience enhancements. You can follow our progress here: https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-36129
This feature proposal is for the ability to encrypt posts/direct messages in the database, with a server-side encryption of the database contents.519 votes
Hey all, we’ve outlined available encryption options here: https://docs.mattermost.com/administration/encryption.html
Would love to hear feedback from everyone who contributed to this feature proposal!
Most popular text editors change the text direction automatically to RTL (Rgiht to Left) when you enter a text in RTL languages such as Persian, Arabic or Hebrew. If that was the case in the Mattermost, we (the RTL language speaking people!) could use Mattermost much more productively, and localization to Farsi, Arabic, etc was possible.278 votes
Add the ability for teams to share "global" channels.
We have multiple teams but have a need for a common channel across all teams.275 votes
Right now there's no approved way to do mattermost on ARM. I think ti'd be a great idea to fix that, and I'm working on fixing it myself. If I get a definitive result, I will post it in the regular forums and/or submit a pull request.236 votes
The same way we can send messages, we should be able to send voice messages.
It should be as simple as click "add voice", record what you want, press send and it's made available on the server for others to listen.
It should be supported by browser and mobile client apps.233 votes
Some users want to view a channel before deciding to join: https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/2382231 votes
Right now the scope of the search feature is limited to the current team. It would be great to have option allowing to specify the scope: channel, team, global (for example)209 votes
It would be great it mattermost is supported in FreeBSD.
I think in order to support more OS, specially BSD unixes, mattermost should not depend from Docker.
For instance Docker doesn't well supported on FreeBSD.175 votes
Add support for multiple lines in tables.
From: https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/1557174 votes
When there are multiple threads going on in the same channel, all lines are prefixed by a grey vertical bar. The only way to separate the threads is to read the reference message. If the vertical bars had different colors (randomly selected), it would be easy to at a glance see which messages belongs to which threads.159 votes
Add an option to allow changing of the default "Display" settings from the System Console. (E.g set Theme & Teammate Name default "Display" settings globally).150 votes
Thank you for this feature idea! We have started to work on this feature.
Also note that we have experimental system-wide default theme settings: https://docs.mattermost.com/administration/config-settings.html#theme-settings-experimental.
should implement an admin interface to the System Console to make the server auto update to the latest MM release
It would be great to make admins life easier to develop an auto admin function to Mattermost that on click downloads, installs and updates the given installation, so the admin doesn't need terminal or root access anymore. Especially renewing the config (put the existing entries in the new/extended config) would be helpful.146 votes
To preserve or moderate a given thread , theme or channel, tagging them makes the search much easier afterwards. But to make sure, that the given hashtags will be the same (tag cloud?), by typing # a dropdown should show up with already used tags. Behavior could be the same lile with @ or :(for smileys!).138 votes
Hey all! Thanks for upvoting the feature, it is now planned: https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-10456
Anyone interested helping contribute the feature to the project?
from https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/1982, Skype etc. allow you to turn off emoticons, so that you get the raw text input instead of the converted smiley face. Not everyone appreciates chat filled with emoji, so it'd be a nice feature to have emoticon rendering a setting people can turn on or off (note that this is about MM-conversion of one an ASCII sequence into an emoticon. If someone types an actual unicode emoji, then that's what they intended to type. But if someone types a colon, a dash, and a closing parenthesis, they did not type a smiley icon, and not everyone appreciates a platform autoconverting another user's input)

cli tool is not user's compliant :)
Users should be able to delete (not just deactivate) their datas without any admin intervention.132 votes
If a user misses replying to a thread in a channel and instead replies directly to the channel, this message is not part of the thread that it was intended to be and the conversation is not clear.
There should be a way for a user or channel admin to move a message to the intended thread inside the channel and keep it inline with the on-going threaded conversation (since everything is timestamped this seems possible).
This would clean up the conversations and mistakes that users will make.127 votes
Work on this feature has begun! Big thanks to @kkekkonen for starting the effort.
If anyone would be interested testing it, you can help out here: https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost-server/pull/9165
PS: Previous update incorrectly mentioned that this an Enterprise Edition feature.
Support Gitea's OAuth2 provider as an authentication source.
Currently, the team edition only supports GitLab as an OAuth2 source. GitLab is pretty heavyweight and many people prefer other software for a variety of reasons.
Gitea (https://gitea.io/en-us/) is a really nice open source, community supported Git server. They recently added support for acting as an OAuth2 provider (see https://docs.gitea.io/en-us/oauth2-provider/ for documentation). It would be great if Mattermost would support Gitea as an OAuth2 provider.118 votes
