Provide an option to show the amount of new messages in a channel
Actually we can see our amout of new mention in a channel, is it possible to do same thing with new messages ?
I think the bold text for new messages isn't visible enough, with a sort of buble like mentions it can be more visible.

Provide physical spaces for chat rooms
Something like https://www.sococo.com/ would be really nice.

Order DM and Members list by online indicator
- Member list (popup box) in the header
- Direct Messages list
- If you can change order by in this lists to order first by online status, then second by name, then it could be more useful.
5 votesThe member list in the channel header now orders members by their online status and then by their name.

Improve customization of push notification messages
Currently push notifications have very limited customizing potential. There is support to provide localized content, but the code assumes always prepends the sender's name to the notification text.

Android: fetch text in background for faster opening from notifications
We use Mattermost (self hosted) in a team of 30 people with about 20 channels.
On my medium performance phone (Xperia Z3) it can take quite a while (~20 seconds) from tapping a notification to showing the actual message, even in ok network conditions (WiFi or 3G+).
In the Desktop App, there's no such lags.I'd guess that by having the App run a background service which already fetches the text data for the channel triggering the notification could considerably speed up this use case.

collapse [-] PUBLIC CHANNELS
We use the favorite channels and direct messages, and therefore would like to collapse the public channels. Then channels with unread messages would only be shown.

Open/View any type of files within built-in applications
Also we need an ability to open any type of files within built-in mobile applications without the need of previously downloading file. For example: one chat member sends a “.docx” file to the group chat, other members can open this file directly by tapping the link once and choose an application to open it

Use Safari view controller to view links in app
Tapping a link shared in Mattermost currently throws you out of the app and into Safari. I would be preferable to use Safari View Controller1 to show the link inside the app.

android notification priority
Android has a notification implementation that supports priority levels. (https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/notifiers/notifications.html). This means that you can define different priorities for the notifcation. lowest means no notification and max is that you get a pop up/in from the top even in full screen apps (like a movie)
Its very disturbing to have that pop in when you are busy with other stuff. especially in the weekend while you are not working (mattermost is in my case work related). If you look at Telegram, you can choose your priority for the notification, or at least this is possible via the settings…

Method to get/export channel member list
Sometimes it would be handy to export a list of channel members for example to form an emailing list or something. Can't find a way to do this either on UI or with commandline tools. Ideally it would be configurable to get Name or Email or both.

Send user name to end-points when interactive button was pushed
Currently, when interactive button was pushed, only user-id is sent to the end-points.
And this causes unnecessary operations on end-points side.
(need to search user name from user id via Web API of Mattermost)It seems better to send some information such as / command sends.

Enable pasting images into text bar for the iOS app.
Right now you cannot paste images into the text bar with the iOS app. This makes it difficult to share images by copying and pasting rather than saving and inserting. If I have an image in my clipboard, I would like to be able to long press in the text entry bar to trigger the paste button. This would then add the image to the text where I could review and either send or remove it.

Set default zoom in preferences
I need to run Mattermost desktop client at about 4 control-+ levels of zoom. Can you please implement a default level of zoom in preferences for text? I doubt there's a way to isolate images vs text zoom, but at least being able to set a default overall zoom would help. It might also be helpful to have an option to control "compactness" of content in that at this zoom level it would help to have text a bit more compact (ie, less vertical line height).

display pinned messages on top
Unless you happen to be Chinese the pinned messages on the right are likely the last thing you will read.
The effective way to pin messages is to stack pinned messages on top.
The metaphor is that the message is pinned to the top of viewport and does not scroll away as other messages do.

Search direct messages: Member name suggestions
Currently you have to know and type the exact name when searching in a direct message history of a single person via "in:@name". Whatever you type is even falsely "corrected" to some other channel when there is a match and you hit enter!
That is why I suggest to include member names in the suggestions when typing a name with "in:@...".

Add parent message reference for slash commands
When running a slash command and replying to a message, it’d be great if we could also have the ID reference for the parent message being replied to.
Example use case: you have a series of past messages and want to “run a command” using the message as the source of some slash command, and you want it to be ephemeral

Quick Markdown insert
Multiple ways to implement this :
- Select a word, then right-click and chose a formatting option (bold, italic, code, etc)
- Select a word and like in Office apps chose formatting options in a toolbar
- Add keyboard shortcuts to add a specific markdown
- Add most used markdowns under the input and make them clickable to insert them
- Add an icon to add markdown (like the Emoji icon)

Option to use the OS window borders
The new mattermost desktop app use a custom window border.
But this does not always meet user expectations, especially under KDE I can freely configure the border. In my case, I have the close button on the left side (like MacOS) and no minimize / maximize buttons.
I know from some apps (e.g. Chrome) that there is an option to use the framework of the OS.
