Implement alt text/image captions
Please implement an option for users to embed screen reader-compatible descriptive captions in images they upload for accessibility purposes. While I recognize this can be done simply by posting the caption text alongside this image, this can be cumbersome if the description is very long (e.g., a screenshot that contains lots of text). Something similar to what Twitter and Instagram have implemented in their UI for alt text (minus the character limit) may be ideal.

Chat left/right alignment
Does mattersmost have a feature to make chat like SMS or MSTeams, where the messages sent by yourself are aligned to the right side of the screen and messages from others are on the left side?

Implement Support for Slackline
Posting from Justin I on old feature request forum: https://mattermost.zendesk.com/hc/communities/public/questions/204151705-Slackline-for-Mattermost
http://slackline.io/ lets you connect 2 channels from different accounts.
It would be great to be able to do this with Mattermost to make transitioning from Slack to Mattermost easier.
i.e. we can have people on Mattermost and Slack, but all conversations that happen on Mattermost are pushed into Slack and visa-versa so that holdouts don't miss anything. If it helps, code is here: https://github.com/ernesto-jimenez/slackline

Add support for custom header/footer on webpages
It would be extremely useful for a straight-forwarded way of adding a custom header and footer to the static HTML pages. For instance, my employer requires some boilerplate legalese on every internal webpage and currently this would require editing nearly every HTML file in /web/templates. Similarly it would be nice to be able to add badging to the header of every page with a logo or something along those lines.

Copying and pasting is not great
A copied mattermost conversation has three lines per message, and the first line is like "ryantm1 minute ago" and the last line is blank. It would be nice if there were cleaner ways to copy the conversations.

make administrators get a notification when new channels were created
When users create new channels, there currently seems to be no notification emails send to administrators neither when a new channel is added nor who this channel added. This prevents administrators from being informed proactively about misbehaviours of users (i.e. if users create non corporate/private information exchanges on the system). A moderator feature would be very appreciated to help the IT securing itself and not having to explain the CEO why there is a public channel for exchanging illegal content, for example.

Add ephemeral chats
Implement ephemeral chats. Useful for one-off topic discussions that may intersect users who do not all participate in a common room and for topics that don't fit existing rooms. There would be a simplified creation process (no topic, no purpose, invite users as the first action), generally more like Direct Messaging. It should also be possible to add/remove people from the conversation and promote it to a real room at some point. Maybe I just want to talk with a group of colleagues about dinner tonight...
Benefits:
- Quick
- No competition for room names
- Possibly allow them to…9 votes -

Add option to restrict DMs to users who share at least 1 team
Proposed text:
System Console > Team Settings > Direct Message options
Enable users to open Direct Message channels with:
- Any user on the Mattermost server // default
- Any member of a team on which a user is also a team member
Help text: ”Any user on the Mattermost server” enables users to open a Direct Message channel with any user on the server, even if they are not on any teams together. "Any member of a team on which a user is also a team member" limits the ability to open Direct Message channels to only users who share at…

Render uploaded .md markdown files in preview window
I would like Mattermost to render uploaded .md files as html rendered rather than as a plain text file.
Currently they display as a text file and if its a long line of text you have to scroll to read it all.

Access Control List for Web Interface & Mobile App
We are a .org wishing to implement Mattermost.
We would like only a specific group of "internal" users to be allowed to access the server from outside the firewall. In addition, we would also like a specific group of external clients to be able to access the server through the mobile app.
I understand one method is to use a VPN. However, an additional app to put on someone's device may be a burden.
The Novell/Micro Focus Product Webaccess has a feature that allows the admin to specify users via an .xml file.
A snippet:
"Controlling WebAccess Usage:

Open channels and direct messages in different windows (Desktop apps)
Right now we use Mattemost for communication about projects and Spark/Jabber/XMPP for direct messages. The reason we prefer Spark over Mattermost is that we can have each communication in a different app window and that makes it easier if you communicate with more people at once. Typical use case is that you send a question to your colleague and keep the window open until you get the answer.

filter channels/users in the sidebar
It would be fantastic to have the option to search/filter in the sidebar.
In big organizations where you talk to many people, sometimes the sidebar gets enormous. A search field in top of the sidebar will allow to filter it and also search (when pressing Return)It "should" keep the headers (favorites, channels, users) to keep it simple.

allow users to 'follow' others to create a filtered feed view.
Currently we have an in-built equality of posts which can become inefficient with high volume.
Recognizing the importance of hubs in scale-free network growth, we could allow for a filtered view of the main town-hall feed, where you just saw the posts (and related threads) of those you choose to follow.
One could also toggle back to the unfiltered view, but allowing people to cluster could make high volume teams more manageable.
Unlike Facebook, the user would remain in control - with no algorithm and the ability to toggle back to the unfiltered view.

Team specific position
Sometimes we don't have the same position in different team. Maybe it would be interesting to be able to have different position depending on the team, and not one position per account.

Offer an onboarding bot
An on-boarding bot helps new users to on-board into a work environment. In every channel a new team member enters the On-boarding Bot will send a message explaining the channel, what is done there, how the team member can get involved, whom to contact etc. This would help organizations and teams to work more efficiently.

Support for nosql database
Considering the benefits of data analytics for such kind of apps, don't you think support for a nosql database would help. Also, if you want to scale it to a million users; will a rdbms solution support that?
