  1. Add option to restrict DMs to users who share at least 1 team

    System Console > Team Settings > Direct Message options

    Enable users to open Direct Message channels with:

    • Any user on the Mattermost server // default
    • Any member of a team on which a user is also a team member

  2. Render uploaded .md markdown files in preview window

    I would like Mattermost to render uploaded .md files as html rendered rather than as a plain text file.

    Currently they display as a text file and if its a long line of text you have to scroll to read it all.

  3. Access Control List for Web Interface & Mobile App

    We are a .org wishing to implement Mattermost.

    We would like only a specific group of "internal" users to be allowed to access the server from outside the firewall. In addition, we would also like a specific group of external clients to be able to access the server through the mobile app.

    I understand one method is to use a VPN. However, an additional app to put on someone's device may be a burden.

    The Novell/Micro Focus Product Webaccess has a feature that allows the admin to specify users via an .xml file.

  4. filter channels/users in the sidebar

    It would be fantastic to have the option to search/filter in the sidebar.
    In big organizations where you talk to many people, sometimes the sidebar gets enormous. A search field in top of the sidebar will allow to filter it and also search (when pressing Return)

    It "should" keep the headers (favorites, channels, users) to keep it simple.

  5. allow users to 'follow' others to create a filtered feed view.

    Currently we have an in-built equality of posts which can become inefficient with high volume.

    Recognizing the importance of hubs in scale-free network growth, we could allow for a filtered view of the main town-hall feed, where you just saw the posts (and related threads) of those you choose to follow.

    One could also toggle back to the unfiltered view, but allowing people to cluster could make high volume teams more manageable.

    Unlike Facebook, the user would remain in control - with no algorithm and the ability to toggle back to the unfiltered view.

    Sometimes we don't have the same position in different team. Maybe it would be interesting to be able to have different position depending on the team, and not one position per account.

  7. Support for nosql database

    Considering the benefits of data analytics for such kind of apps, don't you think support for a nosql database would help. Also, if you want to scale it to a million users; will a rdbms solution support that?

  9. deleted message notice

    Current behavior: when a user deletes a message, it's removed from the channel altogether.

    Requested behavior: when a user deletes a message, that message is replaced by "message deleted" as a status message (the same style as "user has joined the channel"). This could be implemented as default behavior, or as a setting.

    Reasoning: it can be important for the context of a conversation to see that one or more messages were deleted. A user might have responded to a message that has been deleted, which can change the meaning of the message.

  10. Support keyboard shortcuts on iOS

    As on the desktop, keyboard shortcuts are a huge improvement regarding efficiency and usability.

    iPads are more and more used with keyboards and Apple provides an easy way to add keyboards shortcuts to an app.
    So it would be great if without touching the iPad screen we could :
    - Switch to a channel/conversation (jump to)
    - Send a message
    - Search in the team
    - Switch between teams

  11. User should be able to archive a thread

    Summary (Feature Request)

    As a Mattermost user (Manager/Admin of channel)

    I would like to close some discussion which is not needed anymore in the main channel (have been resolved)

    so that I can reduce the content noise in the channel content in the channel by displaying relevant content.

    Observed behavior (that appears unintentional)

    In any channel where there are a lot of people, there is always much noise. I would like to archive those threads which are not needed anymore and display the relevant content in the main view.

    Usually, it might be discussions which end with some result/agreement, but…

  12. Allow SVGs for team icons, user icons and logo

    I can only use JPG, GIF, PNG today and SVGs are rejected.
    I would be happy if I could use SVGs also everywhere as it's the superior format if you have only graphics.

  13. Make log file reading easier

    The timestamp within the log is now Unix Timestamp. This makes it really hard to find the right logs when there is a issue.

    Please implement a option to change to a human readable time. I suggest the UTC timestamp. Dateformat can be fix of should better be looking for the server values.

  14. Add an API for getting private channels

    As a system admin using the API, it would be useful to get a list of private channels for a team.

    Currently, one can get posts for private channels through the channels/{channel_id}/posts API, but that assumes that the admin knows the channel_id. Finding that ID cannot be done through the API.

    Use case: for reporting purposes, we want to get the count of messages per private channel each month.

  15. Inline Code highlighting

    Can there be a way to also change the inline code colors, for both background and text color. So we can configure the client to be more appealing and it can be seen easily.

  18. have a channel preference to have a badge for new messages in a channel like direct messages

    Something like "subscribing" to a channel, where when anyone posts in the channel, you get a direct message badge that behaves like they @'ed you for every message.

  20. PDF Preview Issue

    When you select a PDF that has been posted to Mattermost, the preview is not at a readable size and it only shows the first 5 pages. As we use Mattermost to circulate confidential documents to our Advising and Dispute Resolution Committee, this isn’t ideal as folks would prefer to preview only and not download to their computers.
