1. There should a 'Buzz' for alert

   There should be a 'Buzz' to alert the other user. Like, Spark, Yahoo.

   Sometimes we have messaged to another user. But user is busy on another task. He/She missed the messages which is very important.

   In this case, the user should have a 'Buzz' button or shortcut for alert to someone. I hope everyone knows about the importance of 'Buzz'. :)

7. Channel Footer

   Users frequently put information and urls into the channel header.

   Example: hr-channel might have some links to Q&A, or commonly used sites within a company.

   Problem: Users join new channel and don't think to look at the top of the screen. So, the same questions are asked over and over.

   Solution: Add channel footer. Users can have quick links that are easily viewable. They are more likely to see them!

9. Filter Search/channel by tag.

   It would be nice to have a bar along the top or side of the ui that could be populated with tag so that the user could filter their search results, or channel contents by filters.
   Currently search is inclusive, which makes it hard to reduce the number of search results. Tag filtering would be one method to improve this.

    There is currently no way to exclude results, or to get results where multiple conditions exist;eg
    Returns only where both terms are found : termA AND termB
    returns only termA but not if termB exists : termA -termB
    etc...

11. Ability to customize the chat display/layout

    Add a way to customize the display of the chat in the web interface. Currently a single message takes up two lines of text. If each message could be formatted as desired, the layout could be tailored to each users preference.

    For example (with overly descriptive variable names):
    %SENTTIME%| %SENDER%> %MESSAGE%
    Would result in:
    15:56| Kristian> Hello world!

    To build the current view, you could do:
    %AVATAR% %SENDER% %SENTTIMEAGO%\n%MESSAGE%

    Or something like that.

    As a long time IRC user, I feel that the WebUI for mattermost uses way too much space for a simple chat messages. With customized layout, it would also be possible to also show the exact time of a message, rather than "x ago" which I find extremely unprecise. :-)

12. Asynchronous uploads (that do not block chatting)

    Right now, when you upload a larger sized file you are blocked from chatting until the upload finishes.

    It would be nice if the upload is handled separately so you can continue sending new chats while the upload is processed. Slack does this too.

14. Add user profiles and text boxes

    It would be great if there was a way to expand profiles to include boxes where users could host information. This might include: location, about me, skills, experience, links to external sites and portfolios, or active tasks engaged with. If there is already a way to do this it would be great to know. 15. Restricted channels with a join policy

    Currently all you can have in Mattermost is public channels (joinable by everyone in the team) and private channels (not visible in any listing, and you need to be added).

    The problem is that sometimes you want to have a private discussion where e.g. everyone from the IT department is allowed to participate. Currently you would have to add your whole department to such a channel (which is spammy, especially since you cannot hide any channels from your sidebar without leaving them).

    It would be nice if it was possible to mark a channel as restricted. Such a channel would still be in the channel list when searching for channels to join, but to actually join it, you would have to be approved by a channel admin or member (should be configurable). Another option would be using a LDAP group to determine who can join such a channel.

16. Map Lync/Skype for Business user presence to Mattermost

    Hi,

    We use Lync/Skype for Business as the primary communications tool at my company, but for small project/team communications we use a self-hosted Mattermost server, because it's obviously 9000 times better than SFB.

    However, Mattermost (especially the desktop client) does not integrate very well with Windows regarding the user's presence.

    Short Scenario:
    If I lock my computer, SFB immediately sets my presence to Away, meanwhile Mattermost doesn't.

    On the other way around, if I minimize the Mattermost Desktop client to the tray, and I have an other application running on full-screen, after a short period, Mattermost goes to mark me as away, which is not true -- I'm still at my computer, but in an another application.
    This is super inconvenient -- or are we doing something wrong?

    Now, our workaround for this (which is super uncomfortable) is checking our colleague's status on SFB/Lync, then alt+tab back to Mattermost, and start/continue our conversation if they're available.

    My proposal:

    I did a little research, and I was happy to find out that SFB/Lync indeed has got a public API resource for querying user presences.
    I put together a little python script (no golang competence yet, sorry) to test Microsoft's UCWA (https://ucwa.skype.com/about-ucwa), and I could easily get the presence of anybody in my organization/on my partner list.

    My suggestion would be adding a new attribute to the User model class in Mattermost to map the existing users in Mattermost to their Skype for Business SIP address.
    Also, write a server-side function which would query the presence of online Mattermost users each x seconds, and would return this presence info on the GUI (another small circle next to the internal Mattermost status, maybe?)

    Also a question:
    I do not know golang and I also don't know Mattermost's architecture yet, so please help me in this question:
    If you decide not to implement this feature, would it be possible to integrate this into our instance as a 3rd-party plugin, and
    can 3party plugins change the look of the GUI for all users -- what's are the main limitations?

    Would you be open to help contribute to it? If so, we’d be more than happy to guide you through the process. The change would be in our Desktop App which uses Javascript instead of Go.

17. Login with QR code

    I have a very long password and I would like to keep it. To make it easier to login on the phone it would be great if a QR is code shown on the computer which I can scan. (Where I am already logged into Mattermost.) Similar to Whatsapp where you login like this on the computer.

    Currently Email Notifications are sent out on either a mention or a direct message. Our users asked for the feature to decide weather to have notifications only for mentions, only for DMs or for both.
