Add ephemeral chats
Implement ephemeral chats. Useful for one-off topic discussions that may intersect users who do not all participate in a common room and for topics that don't fit existing rooms. There would be a simplified creation process (no topic, no purpose, invite users as the first action), generally more like Direct Messaging. It should also be possible to add/remove people from the conversation and promote it to a real room at some point. Maybe I just want to talk with a group of colleagues about dinner tonight...
- No competition for room names
- Possibly allow them to be OTR, i.e. not logged? This is not really a requirement, the ephemeral nature is more about the use of the chat, not necessarily the retaining of the chat logs.

i'd like to see ephemeral messages in all channels : for small talk, pieces of info that are needed only on a small period of time... Not everything we say in mattermost need to stay stored forever... it would be easier to find important stuff lost in the flow if said flow is way lighter ;)
Group Direct Messaging is a feature that might be similar to what you're requesting. You can create a group of up to 7 participants by clicking on "More..." at the foot of the direct message channels and then searching for and adding participants. Is this something that would help?
