Release RPM packages for those on rpm-based systems
I recently switched to fedora and now i can't install the mattermost desktop app using rpm - because there's no rpm package.
Thus I suggest you also release a rpm package (thanks to electron-builder this should be a pretty easy task)

Restrict normal users to invite external users to a private folder
To have better security control and use MM as a viable alternative in an intranet environment, it will be great to have the option at admin level to disallow nornal users to invite external users without admin approval

Build Android app without Google Play Services
The Android app requires the Google Play Services because it uses GCM for push notifications. This library is not open-source so it prevents Mattermost from being included in FOSS repositories like F-Droid.
It would be nice to have an option that builds the app without GCM.174 votes -
Add phone number in contact card & utilize tel: protocol handler for invoking call capability using Jabber or Lync soft phone
Add phone number in contact card and utilize tel: protocol handler for invoking call capability using Jabber or Lync soft phone. The following number format (tel://+442075613215) already gets enabled for click to call on MM app/web.

Daily / weekly email digests
I know it sounds like the “email batching” feature added in Mattermost 3.4 https://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/12903204-allow-email-batching-limiting
… but for non-professionnal environnement, a daily, weekly, or even 15 days or monthly “digests” of notifications and/or channels activities would be very useful. Even with one hour batches, members deactivates their notifications when they can't work everyday for the team.
“Slow projects” don't need immediate responses, and a moderate usage of notifications would be appreciated.
In some circonstances, a good (slow) timing of reminder could even drive members' involvement (e.g. for those who takes a few hours per week for a project).
This could be…

mute individual users
As a user, I would like to be able to ignore the postings from other users. I would like to individually select which users I want to ignore. It should be easy to add/remove users from my ignore list.

Add actual permanent deletion - on database AND filesystem level
It would be really, really cool, if one would be able to delete content permanently.
The problem is that currently the mattermost installation will grow indefinitely.
The idea is to allow system admins (or "./platform"-access) to clean storage and database.
Selectively: delete all "deleted" files, delete all "deleted" messages.Currently you can delete users and teams permanently.
(leaving their filesystem stuff)
Which basically just needs some little extension. Also add some information for sysadmins on how much filesystem storage is currently in use (+used by deleted files) and add an option that warns sysadmins if the set number of GB…

Configurable Away time
Away time is currently set to default 5 minutes. Please let us change it (or increase it to eg 15mins?). Thanks

Add more colors of notification dots, and let users set a color for each channel
This will make MM much less distracting since it's easier to ignore chatter on "less important" channels.

Autocomplete nickname with initial + Tab, and not only @initial + tab
Autocompleting usernames on initial followed by <Tab> has become a widespread standard since IRC, and is available in all Mattermost alternatives (Slack, HipChat, etc.).
Mattermost allows autocompleting usernames only when @ is used, but this serves a different purpose: linking usernames. Simple and straightforward autocompletion is still usefull in live conversations and the use of @ can be akward, or even difficult on some keyboard layouts. Simple autocompletion is actually missed by some users, and for instance I have a potential team member that refuses to join if he cannot use this basic feature he has been using for…

Desktop Notification should allow to answer right away (Desktop App, macOS)
On macOS, Desktop Notifications can offer a "Reply" Button in order to allow a user to answer to a message right from the received notification, which is very handy. I wish to have this feature in the Mattermost Desktop app as some of my users have used Hipchat before and they complain this feature is not available in Mattermost.

load to my last message
The idea is to have a link, "load to my last message", right beside "Load more messages", the goal of it is to "load all chat messages up to the last time I talked in that channel", this way rather than seeing messages backwards, I can just click it and read the channel in order from the time I left it. Seems like a rather simple addition.

Automatically delete the oldest attachments when approaching a set storage limit
If I have a 20GB server instance, and we're posting big files all the time, we'll hit that pretty quickly. If we hit it, the server will slow down and start rejecting uploads or having errors. Instead, I should be able to set it to limit the total attachment storage to, say, 15gb, and it should aim to stay under that by deleting the oldest stuff.

Protocol handler for deep linking to channel in desktop or mobile app
Use a protocol handler to get to channels within the desktop app with a format like:
"mattermost://channel?id=#{mattermostchannelid}&team=#{course.mattermostteamid}"Something similar could be implemented in the mobile apps too.
Some open questions:
- what happens if someone clicks the deep link but doesn't have the app open or installed?
- should the deep link work for public channels only?7 votes -

Support 3rd Party Push Notification Services such as Pushy
Google Play Services and GCM is blocked in China. This means that users that are not on VPN cannot get push notifications. The only known workarounds that I know of are using a 3rd party Push Notification service such as Baidu (http://push.baidu.com/doc/android/api) or Pushy (https://pushy.me/) or to run your own push notification service. I wish I didn't have to make this suggestion, but MatterMost is severely crippled by this and I dont see the geopolitics changing anytime soon.

Prevent non-admin users to rename channels
I'm aware of your business model and I'm fine with an advanced permissions system in the paid edition. I'm also aware that you carefully thought through the channel management for basic users (see https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/1764) and think it's a good way of approaching things.
But please, consider removing the ability for every one to rename channels. This is not useful, doesn't really make sense and more importantly leaves the ability for anyone to ruin a setup (prank or sabotage). It also gives a feeling of totally uncontrolled environment for these users.
This small feature makes me question the entire usage…
