    Definitely ESC would be a great option, it feels natural to hit ESC when trying to leave a panel or sidebar.

    Shift+Up is used to open RHS, so Shift+Down could be an option to close RHS (if Esc, by some reason, is undesired).

    If the ESC key isn't reserved for anything else, it sounds like a good choice.

    Yes something like "ESC" should also close the sidebar.
