Sort users by last name in private chat list
In my opinion, it is very usefull to sort users by their last name. Now they are sorted by first name and it is very annoying. We have more people with same forename but fewer with same last name. It is more logical to sort them alpaphetically by last name than forename.

allow tagging of channel that needs further attention
I like to read all my channels that have new posts first and then go back to the channels that need follow up action. But once I have looked at a channel it is no longer highlighted so it can be hard to find. It would be good to be able to tag it or keep it highlighted until dealt with.

Mute channel categories
For example I have categories for different projects, would be great to mute all of a project's channels while I'm focussing on a different one.

Ability to add users to team or channel from mobile device
While I'm on my cell phone, I should be able to access and invite people to the team or channel that I am currently in. Both for users who are not currently on the server via email, and users who exist but are in a separate team.

Allow integrations to add buttons to ios / adroid interface
While the desktop and browser interface have integrations buttons in the top right corner (Zoom / Jitsi), this is not available for the Android/iOS versions.
While / commands work (/jitsi) it is not intuitive for new users.Suggestion is to allow adding a icon next to the / icon in the interface.

Newcommers to private channels should not have access to the past logs
When a new user is invited to a private channel, s.he can access all the past logs as if s.he was a member of the channel from Day 1. I see this as a sort of privacy pitfall, as you have to control your language thinking of who may be invited in the future. That's not exactly what I'd call a private discussion channel.
My use case is that we are using mattermost to discuss our research project. I can perfectly imagine how we discuss together about a concurring project and then later introduce a postdoc coming from that group.…

Support other Postgres schema but public
I have not found any way to specify the Postgres schema that mattermost should use and saw that the "public" schema was in the sql migration files.
Using the public schema is not a recommended practice with postgres : https://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Database_Schema_Recommendations_for_an_Application
See first section stating :

Custom channel header to show up in the sidebar
I have several team/group conversations. They each show up in the sidebar as "Alphabetized person's name, next person's name." We have the ability to give a channel a custom header. It would be nice if that custom header could be what is displayed in the sidebar. Thank you.

Notifications when a specific user posts in a channel
I would like to set it so I get notified when a specific user (such as my manager) posts in a channel. This would make it faster to see any questions and he would get a faster response.

Sort Posts by Most Recent First.
Would it be possible to sort posts by most recent first (top of list) so one does not have to scroll down to the bottom of a post list, or at least offer this as an option?

Zoom App - Channel Headers - Higher Character Limit

I WANT channel headers to have a higher character limit (at least double, preferably triple or more)

Add filter to show only channels with unread messages (or recent activity)
I like Mattermost but frequently the list of collaborators gets long and I have to scroll between active chats.
I think a filter feature would be useful to show only certain chats, e.g.
- channels with unread messages
- filter by textCombined with "pinned channels" this would help to focus on the active stuff even without giving Mattermost an entire (large) screen.

Managing team members via drag n drop
Hello everybody,
in the last time I set some teams in our Mattermost and some teams have many members. Currently you have to choise the member as direct chat and then you can drop him in the team you want.
Is it possible that we can get the same mask for direct chat for the manageing of the teams, too? That would reduce the time for managing of the teams.1 vote -

Android back button navigate through Mattermost app window history
I suggest that the back button should work more similar to other chat applications on the mobile platform. At the moment pressing the back button (or gesture) prompts for confirmation to close the application.
It feels more natural to go back to the previous channel, direct message, etc.For example:
I receive a direct message notification and I click on it. I am taken to the direct message. I then activate the drawer and move to another channel. To get back to the prevoius direct message or channel it would be handy to just press the back key.

Allow users to be set to disallow direct messages
At the moment, you can configure users to be allowed to send direct messages either to other members of the team or to anyone on the server.
I'd like to make it so that normal users cannot start direct messages at all.
My particular usecase may be a little out of the sweet spot - I have created a mattermost for my children (quite young) who I want to be able to chat with while they are doing their home learning, but don't want them using public chat systems. I am happy for them to interact with each other in…

Enable Notifications when Mattermost is not Visible to the User
If a chat is selected when the desktop app is not visible or minimized, the user will not receive notifications for any new messages sent within the chat.
For example, If I am talking to Bob, then I shrink the desktop app with his name still selected in the left hand pane, or I open a new window and cannot see the Mattermost app, it wont notify me of a new message from Bob unless I make sure to click on a different chat window with someone else prior to moving my attention away from Mattermost.
