Option to disable user "Access History"
Mattermost seems to log all user IP as a default.
Maybe it would be a nice option to opt-out per user or system wide the logging of all IP addresses.4 votes -
Custom intro text for system, team and channels
Custom intro text for a system, team or channel, similar in set up to Custom Tutorial Text with markdown support and preview, that is displayed to a user when joining a specific system, team or channel, and the user needs to hit "Okay" to dismiss. The user should be able to find the message in the system, team or channel settings to review the info.
Requesting this because often organizations want to share more about the purpose of their Mattermost deployment, and include different links, e.g. link to naming conventions to use for channels, an internal user's guide to the…

Make visual indications of new messages more pronounced
The current indication for the Mac client is a hardly distinguishable blue dot for the team and a hardly distinguishable whiter color for the channel. It's nice and muted, but I had to really look hard before I found what to look for for unread messages. I suggest a slightly more pronounced way of indicating unread messages for teams and channels.

Allow us to make the window smaller on desktop without collapsing the sidebar.
Sidebar needs to be able to be resizable and we should be able to make the window smaller with the sidebar still showing. There is a lot of empty space.

I can search easily for a group name on iPhone, but there is not the same convenient matching feature on macOS.
I can search easily for a group name on iPhone, but there is not the same convenient matching feature on macOS. Also on iPhone, I see all unread messages at top of list, on macOS I have to scan the whole list to find unread messages. So the macOS client needs to catch up with the iPhone.

Google MFA Authenticator subject should be the URL not just "Mattermost"
Summary
When using "Scan barcode" to automatically configure Google Authenticator for MFA the subject is always "Mattermost".
Steps to reproduce
- Enable LDAP.
- Enable Multi-factor authentication.
- When a user scans the barcode to configure Google Authenticator the subject of the account is always Mattermost.
- If you use couple of instances of Mattermost (example test+prod) you can't distinguish which code to use and can't login to Mattermost.
Expected behavior
- The subject of the account should be the url of the Mattermost instance you are configuring MFA for.

Sending payload in »application/json« for slash commands
Almost all integrations in Mattermost send or receive payloads with a »application/json« content type. Incoming Webhooks, Outgoing Webhooks (configurable, see ticket https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost-server/issues/1649), Interactive Message Buttons… but not »Slash Commands«. Slash Commands are the only integration type, which sends it payload as »application/x-www-form-urlencoded«. Please allow sending a slash command with »application/json«.

Add support for Adaptive Icons on Android 8
Android 8 introduced a featured called Adaptive Icons; it lets users pick the shape of icons on their home screen. Supporting this is extremely easy, and only requires 4 lines of XML code. Please add support for this feature in a future release.

we use LDAP user account login in mattermsot，if users fotgot password, they can not use "i forgot my password" link to reset password.
can you let manager to choose open or not open this link?

Status over name (Working locations)
something which i liked about Slack was you could put a 'status' which would appear by hovering over someone's name. I and a lot of others used to put their locations for the week which was quite useful.

List accepted (and not yet ones) invitations
Keep track to whom accepted invitation and those who didn't yet.
When you send invitations to many people, you can't know for sure who actually accepted so you may want to resend invitations to your list of contacts (and again… And again…).4 votes -
Show slash command for in_channel integration responses
One subtle different between slack and mattermost around slash commands is that "in_channel" responses in slack also show the initial user and command. I find this helps visibility, especially if the command has arguments -

Policy for new account to change the initial password
Hello world,
we host mattermost by our own. So it is not allowed to register by your self. Our admin create the user with a initial password.
So it will be good, that the user have to change the initial password.
What do you think about it?

Add a search to the "Teams you can join" page
Yesterday I went to see if there was already a Python group in mattermost for my org, and when I tried to find one by scrolling through the existing groups it didn't seem to be there.
I created the page, and was then told that it did in fact exist, but it was a channel under another page. It turned into a big mess, but it could have been avoided if there was a search bar on the page where you check to see what groups already exist. We would want that search to also pick up public channels.

Read-only for external clients
It would be great to send secure links of an private channel to a client for status updates.
What i want to do is:
I want to start a new channel and write status updates or some information about the progress of an project.
External clients should be able to view this channel only and see what has been posted und get current state if they want.
But they should not be forced to register a new account. (Read/view only).4 votes -
Move thread to another chanel
Sometime, a thread is created in a channel that is the wrong one.
There should be a way to move this channel into another channel with all its answers (by the original user and/or admin).
This option could be added to the [...] menu of (the first?) message of a thread.

per channel audio notification toggle
Mute audio notifications per channel. Allow to see unread messages but not the audio part.

CMD/CTRL+K should use fuzzy find methodology
When you are using cmd+k to find a channel or person, it would be nice if it used a fuzzy find searching mechanism.
Example:
trying to find person a.lastName
searching: "alast" doesn't find anything currently since it requires you search "a.last"4 votes -
Prompt email-based accounts to re-auth using LDAP during migration period
Our organization wishes to use the new bulk export tool to migrate teams and users from our pilot server. This server used email-based accounts, and we are now using LDAP authentication on the new Enterprise server.
All of these accounts should have LDAP, but were created using email addresses that do not always map. We want users to be able to log in once with their old email authentication, then be prompted to log in again using their LDAP credentials.
