Allow SVG as custom emoji
Allow the user to upload SVGs as custom emoji
currently only PNG, JPG and GIF are allowed. But when I tried to upload an SVG the Preview rendered, but the saving was not possible because of file extension limitations.

Don't create duplicate installation on Windows when upgrading (MSI)
After upgrading the Windows desktop client from 4.3.1 to 4.3.2, both installed with the MSI, an entry for both versions exist in add/remove programs.
Two keys are created in the registry.
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall{A44E2D12-7D92-4ABC-8366-35E1CD827C01}
and
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall{C0437176-EF43-4633-A55C-1164B09E8646}
Updating the application, which would normally be a simple process of running the MSI for the latest version with the /qn switch through any systems management system has turned into a scripting exercise. Either the GUID should stay the same or the old version should be automatically removed.
Additionally, removing 4.3.1 after installing 4.3.2 breaks the installation, as the files are installed…

Automatically restart Mattermost after upgrade if it was already running (MSI)
When updating existing installations of Mattermost with the MSI, the desktop app should automatically restart if it was running when the installation started. At the very least, the installer option that starts Mattermost after installation should be exposed as a public property, so it can be set as a switch when installing with msiexec.
Currently, the MSI kills the process but it doesn't restart when running with the /qn switch.

As of now, the integration between Mattermost and Dropbox relies on third party setup such as Zapier and Integromat:

Enable a setting to allow sound alerts on a channel basis
I love that I can get notified when there is a post with a sound. But we have a community channel that a huge number of people belong to where things are discussed that I'm not interested in. I was added to the channel by my boss, and think it would be rude to disconnect. But if I could just turn off the notifications for that channel then I wouldn't be so distracted looking at many many notifications that have nothing to do with me and my work. Restrict BigBlueButton to allowed users
As of now, mattermost custom integration plugin is available to all users on Team edition. It will be good if there is a restriction like "personal access token" can be enabled for particular users.

Expand image previews in Compact Message Display mode
I would like to be able to see a preview of the attached image even if I am in Compact Message Display Mode.
Currently, even if the Account Settings > Display > Default appearance of image previews is set to Expanded, the image is only displayed as an attachment icon when Account Settings > Display > Message Display is set to Compact. These two settings should work independently of each other.18 votes -

Add parent message reference for slash commands
When running a slash command and replying to a message, it’d be great if we could also have the ID reference for the parent message being replied to.
Example use case: you have a series of past messages and want to “run a command” using the message as the source of some slash command, and you want it to be ephemeral

Distribute Mattermost Desktop via the Mac App Store
Hi,
Since the Mattermost Desktop client does not include an auto-updater and the iOS version is already distributed on the App Store, why don't you distribute the mac client on the Mac App Store.This would solve the updating problem and also make the app easier to discover. The download page is pretty hidden on the mattermost website, I always end up on the server download page when I only want to check for update.

Search direct messages: Member name suggestions
Currently you have to know and type the exact name when searching in a direct message history of a single person via "in:@name". Whatever you type is even falsely "corrected" to some other channel when there is a match and you hit enter!
That is why I suggest to include member names in the suggestions when typing a name with "in:@...".

When using the channel reference (~ sign), it should only return channels that I am a member of
Currently when using the channel reference (~ sign), it returns all public channels that matches the search, regardless of whether the user is a member of it or not.
It would be more efficient to only show channels that the user is currently a part of

Currently when using the channel reference (~ sign), it sorts the results alphabetically, and it matches these search results based on the display name, the channel URL and the channel purpose.
It would be better however if it were to sort the direct matches with display name higher/at the top of the list so it would be easier for users to find and navigate to those channels.

Do not send notification emails if chat message got delete
Notifications of new chat messages should not be emailed if the chat message has already been deleted.

There should a 'Buzz' for alert
There should be a 'Buzz' to alert the other user. Like, Spark, Yahoo.
Sometimes we have messaged to another user. But user is busy on another task. He/She missed the messages which is very important.
In this case, the user should have a 'Buzz' button or shortcut for alert to someone. I hope everyone knows about the importance of 'Buzz'. :)

Better Upgrade Notification for Old Desktop App
As of now, we do not have a clear warning message to indicate that a desktop client has compatibility issue (old version) with the latest Mattermost Server version.
it will be a good idea to have a message (pop up) that detects the desktop client version and remind them to upgrade it to the latest version if it is at least 1.x version behind the current one.

File upload - Opens a modal where user can enter message to be displayed along with image.
File upload should trigger a modal to be shown in which user can add more files and also enter corresponding text against the image upload.
