Auto/Periodic Refresh of Channel Header
Some users find themselves navigating through multiple channels quite frequently; while others find themselves "squatting". My team happens to be full of the those that squat largely because we use one channel per project, and one build per project. We'd like to include the build shield/badge images into the header (which is currently possible); however, since the channel header is never refreshed, individuals must rely solely on messages within the channel to bring the current build status to their attention.
Either adding an auto-refresh to all channel headers, or allowing administrators to selectively enable a channel header for periodic update/refresh…

Improve team viewing
If I am a member of multiple teams I can't see all the chats in one place. I need to switch between teams to use them. It would be much better if I could see all channels/chats for all my teams on one screen.
Perhaps this could be achieved by having a collapsable menu for each team on the left that contains all the existing team specific functionality like channels etc. This would also help improve the notifications when receiving messages from multiple teams.

global/common channel across teams
Add the ability for teams to share "global" channels.
We have multiple teams but have a need for a common channel across all teams.

Add actual permanent deletion - on database AND filesystem level
It would be really, really cool, if one would be able to delete content permanently.
The problem is that currently the mattermost installation will grow indefinitely.
The idea is to allow system admins (or "./platform"-access) to clean storage and database.
Selectively: delete all "deleted" files, delete all "deleted" messages.Currently you can delete users and teams permanently.
(leaving their filesystem stuff)
Which basically just needs some little extension.Also add some information for sysadmins on how much filesystem storage is currently in use (+used by deleted files) and add an option that warns sysadmins if the set number of GB…

Extract GIF from Giphy links
When posting a link to a Giphy page (e.g. http://giphy.com/gifs/power-rangers-morphin-OOZLyBA9Euq2I), it would be nice if Mattermost could automatically display the GIF below the post.
(It works if you post the direct link to the .gif file but most users won't do that.)7 votes -
Use clocks to easily create and view threads
This feature is really usefull to identify and follow different conversations in a channel.
When you click on a clock, it adds the clock in the beginning of the post (or at the position of the cursor).
When you hover on a clock in a post, it highlights the referring post and the answers to this post.You can see a demo there : http://sveetch.net/tribune/

Customize search clause for fulltext search
Currently search clause for fulltext is using "@@" operator for PostgreSQL with tsvector/tsquery. But I would like to use "LIKE" operator with re-generated index for better search using language specific algorithm(e.g. Japanese).
Now search clause template is "@@ %s". I would like to replace it to "LIKE %s" or "LIKE func(%s)".

no character length of name when display is set to "real name"
Now it is set to 24(?)
For example "Mansoor Nahasapeemapetilon" would be displayed as "Mansoor Nahasapeemapetil..."
There is enough space to display the whole name.

Implement Automatic Right-To-Left (RTL)
Most popular text editors change the text direction automatically to RTL (Rgiht to Left) when you enter a text in RTL languages such as Persian, Arabic or Hebrew. If that was the case in the Mattermost, we (the RTL language speaking people!) could use Mattermost much more productively, and localization to Farsi, Arabic, etc was possible.

Option to show integration username overrides in push notifications
When push notifications get sent they show up as my username for my integrations (username posted to channel). It would be great if the notifications showed username overrides instead or there was an option to do so, "Nagios posted to channel".

Rename Group-Members locally
It should be possible for everybody to change the names of the Team-Members locally.

For file storage, add support for Google Cloud Storage
For users who don't want to or can't use Amazon S3 or local filesystem, adding support for Google Cloud Storage improves the "Cloud portability" of Mattermost, in addition to supporting more use cases.

Asynchronous uploads (that do not block chatting)
Right now, when you upload a larger sized file you are blocked from chatting until the upload finishes.
It would be nice if the upload is handled separately so you can continue sending new chats while the upload is processed. Slack does this too.

Ability to customize the site favicon
When a user interacts with several Mattermost instances having always the same favicon can get highly confusing.
With versions pre-3.0 it was fairly easy to directly change the favicon files on the installation. It looks way more complex since the 3.0 came out as the file names are no longer predictable

Support gitlab avatar
When a user signup using gitlab sso, it would be nice if mattermost imports the avatar image as the user's profile picture.

Provide an option to show the amount of new messages in a channel
Actually we can see our amout of new mention in a channel, is it possible to do same thing with new messages ?
I think the bold text for new messages isn't visible enough, with a sort of buble like mentions it can be more visible.

Add user_real_name to outgoing slash commands or webhooks
An outgoing /slash command from mattermost sends information including the token, userid and username in the POST.
We would also like to see userrealname in the POST, without having to do another API call.
For example:
channelid=cniah6qa73bjjjan6mzn11f4ie&
channelname=town-square&
command=/somecommand&
responseurl=not+supported+yet&
teamdomain=someteam&
teamid=rdc9bgriktyx9p4kowh3dmgqyc&
text=hello+world&
token=xr3j5x3p4pfk7kk6ck7b4e6ghh&
userid=c3a4cqe3dfy6dgopqt8ai3hydh&
username=freddy
userreal_name=Fred+Smith1 vote
