Desktop app: Help menu should be accessible by keyboard under Windows
On the Windows client, the "Help" menu is not accessible by keyboard. This is because both the "History" and the "Help" menu have the same accelerator letter "H" assigned, so Alt+H opens the "History" menu (presumably because it comes first). Furthermore, the menu bar doesn't follow the normal Windows UI convention that you can toggle keyboard focus from/to the menu bar by presing just the Alt key, and that you can navigate between menus using the left/right arrow keys when keyboard focus is on the menu or menu bar, thereby preventing the other way the "Help" menu could be accessed…

Implement custom team shortnames
Currently the team list shows the first two letters of the team name, if no custom icon is provided. It would be great if these two letters could be configured, so that they can be different from the first two letters of the team name.

Enable the Mattermost mobile app for Intune app protection policies
Microsoft provides an SDK to enable app protection policies to be applied via Intune. Adding this functionality would be a huge benefit for clients that leverage Intune as their MDM and have data protection requirements that prevent data transfer between managed and non-managed apps.
More information available here:

add the option to disable notifications for the active window
Having audio notifications for a window that is currently active seems silly. While I could see some wanting it, I think it would be a valuable feature to be able to disable this feature.

Administration of channels through Admin interface.
Implement channel management in the admin UI. Currently the only channel administration is in the channel itself or through the CLI.

Disable notifications for topic changes
Users should be able to more selectively enable notifications for specific events. If a username either gets removed or added in a topic, that user now gets a notification, but this is not always desirable.

Allow to search for user name based on email and/or full (and partial) name
In my company many people use fancy names, abbreviated names and so on. If I want to communicate to someone I know (email, full name) but doesn't know his MM user name, I really don't know how to do it.
(But I am still quit new to MM, so maybe there is a way?)1 vote -

The installation should be only depending on a ftp-access to a hosted server storing data in flat files. Second best would be mysql connection.

Function 'Automatically Close Direct Messages' shouldn’t close unread Messages
The function should only close already read messages. If a user is on vacation and comes after ten days back to work, the user should see all unread messages in the sidebar even if the unread message is older than seven days.

Improve High Availability UI
Some improvements could help administration:
- In the Cluster Status table, highly the node that the user is currently connected to so it's obvious
- Provide a way to connect directly to the server on the local port to debug that specific server.
Any other ideas for improvement?

add a plugin hook for search
If plugins had a hook when someone performs a search, they could customise the search experience, e.g. by querying other systems and offering those results too (maybe as an ephemeral post).
I would love to use mattermost search as our cross-platform search provider...

allow message with slack attachments to show there fallback text in email notifications (instead of sending an empty email)
Hi all,
We ran into an issue where messages sent that consist of an attachment as per:
https://docs.mattermost.com/developer/message-attachments.html 1
don’t show anything in email notifications. I was wondering if this was intended?I can imagine sending the formatted text is difficult, but part of the message attachment is a fallback string and including this in the email notification should be feasable.
Kind regards,

When sharing something from mobile browser to the Mattermost app, it should remember the last channel shared to as the new default
When you share something from the mobile browser to the Mattermost Android app, it does not remember the last channel that was shared to.
For example, the Mattermost app defaults to channel A because that is the last used channel. When I share a link from the Chrome browser to Mattermost, it will default to channel A, but in this case I opted to share to channel B. The next time I share a link, it will still default to channel A despite my last share being to channel B.
It would be very convenient if the Mattermost app would…
