  1. Add an option to hide the menu bar

In the desktop client, it could be useful to have an option to hide the menu bar by default (Signal desktop has this, also an Electron-based app), since it's not used that much in day-to-day usage. It could appear when pressing alt (Signal does this, as well as Firefox). Ideally I'd like the application to be more in-line with Gnome design, using a headerbar, but I realize this would be larger thing, and may not be desirable in a third-party application…

  2. Improve High Availability UI

    Some improvements could help administration:

    • In the Cluster Status table, highly the node that the user is currently connected to so it's obvious
    • Provide a way to connect directly to the server on the local port to debug that specific server.

    Any other ideas for improvement?

  3. Allow plugins to add to the settings menu

Allow plugins to add to the settings menu, much like they can add to the System Console settings.

  4. Have the option for a test license for existing enterprise license holders

It would be incredibly helpful for enterprise license holders to be able to generate a sort of test license, so that they can set up a test instance with all the features of Enterprise instances (such as LDAP, SAML, etc) so they can test out their settings first before implementing them into their production instance.

  6. Plugin hook for channel header, title and purpose change.

I would like to add a string to the header and purpose every time it is changed via a plugin, but this is currently not possible as there is no hook for channel metadata in the plugin API.

  7. Compliance Export (Beta) Suggestion

As per the official documentation here - https://docs.mattermost.com/administration/compliance-export.html#why-are-compliance-exports-beta, it is mentioned that:

"Exports do not yet include messages with special types, namely system messages, webhook message attachments and custom plugin messages."

Do we have an estimation as to when this will be implemented in the upcoming Compliance Export for E20?

  10. Have the ability to jump directly to the first message in a channel

When a user needs to scroll up through a lot of history, it can take a lot of time and effort. It would be much better if there was a button or ability letting users to jump directly to the first message in a channel.

  11. Add Gitea OAuth2 Support

Support Gitea's OAuth2 provider as an authentication source.

Currently, the team edition only supports GitLab as an OAuth2 source. GitLab is pretty heavyweight and many people prefer other software for a variety of reasons.

Gitea (https://gitea.io/en-us/) is a really nice open source, community supported Git server. They recently added support for acting as an OAuth2 provider (see https://docs.gitea.io/en-us/oauth2-provider/ for documentation). It would be great if Mattermost would support Gitea as an OAuth2 provider.

  12. Function 'Automatically Close Direct Messages' shouldn’t close unread Messages

The function should only close already read messages. If a user is on vacation and comes after ten days back to work, the user should see all unread messages in the sidebar even if the unread message is older than seven days.

  13. one file installation on hosted servers

The installation should be only depending on a ftp-access to a hosted server storing data in flat files. Second best would be mysql connection.

  14. Disable taskbar badge for specified channel(s), but keep channel name in bold for unread general messages

In the notification preferences for a channel (probably under Mark Channel Unread), I'd like to have the ability to disable the application icon badge in the taskbar unless someone mentions me or the whole channel, while still keeping the channel name in bold for any general messages.

That way, when I open the app, I can see which channels have general messages for me to catch up on (b/c the channel name will be in bold), but I don't get drawn to the app by taskbar icon badges for channels that I don't want to be notified about while I'm…

  15. Enable MFA reset through the system console

It would be nice if there were a way to reset someone's MFA configuration from the System Console instead of having to use the command line tool. For large teams, MFA devices are lost fairly frequently so it's burdensome to have to use the command line tool each time.

  16. Parse channel search string to allow more powerful queries

I use the channel switcher with Ctrl+K a lot. Recently I joined two groups that have some overlapping members:

Group X has members aa, bb, me. Group Y has members aa, cc, me.

Now, it is quite tedious to search for them efficiently. If I search for "bb" and "cc" I will hit direct messaging with either of the two. And if I search for "aa" it is even worse: I get the two groups, plus direct messaging.

I suggest to allow for a search expressions as follows: "a b", "a c". I expect this to find group channels where…

  17. Check which channels are being actively used by the company (Latest comment date)

My company has multiples teams and more than 20 channels in each of them. I am a new employee, and I have to join each channel to check if they are being used looking for the latest comment date.

Is there a feature to order channels by the latest comment date or to filter the channel list to have only the ones that are being used?

  18. Support Google Apps sign in when using the Android app

You've added Google Apps SSO sign in following suggestion https://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/14879976-google-apps-sign-in, but support is still needed in the app interface.

  19. Add "edited by admin" when admin edit someone's message

Team admin can edit users messages (when option is available) but it can be usefull to specify when it's not the user himself that edit, but an admin.

Proposal: add "(edited by admin)" instead of "(edited")

  20. End-to-end encryption of mobile notifications

If a user is sending highly sensitive information over a Mattermost deployment, having it traverse Apple's and/or Google's servers unencrypted en route to a mobile device may not be acceptable. At the same time, configuring the server to exclude the message body removes a significant amount of potentially-valuable context from the notification.

The conflict between these concerns could be resolved by having the Mattermost server encrypt mobile notifications with a per-device key prior to submission, and having the mobile app decrypt the notification before presenting it to the user.

This can be done on iOS with a Notification Service Extension: …
