  2. Implement alt text/image captions

    Please implement an option for users to embed screen reader-compatible descriptive captions in images they upload for accessibility purposes. While I recognize this can be done simply by posting the caption text alongside this image, this can be cumbersome if the description is very long (e.g., a screenshot that contains lots of text). Something similar to what Twitter and Instagram have implemented in their UI for alt text (minus the character limit) may be ideal.

    Email forwarding generically refers to the operation of re-sending an email message delivered to one email address to one or more different email addresses.

    The term forwarding, used for mail since long before electronic communications, has no specific technical meaning,[1] but it implies that the email has been moved "forward" to a new destination.

    Email forwarding can also redirect mail going to a certain address and send it to one or more other addresses. Vice versa, email items going to several different addresses can converge via forwarding to end up in a single address in-box.[clarification needed]

  5. Feature to enable Auto theme switch based on MacOS theme

    Introduce an "Auto mirror OS theme" toggle button in Mattermost Desktop for MacOS (and possibly Windows) client so it can mirror the MacOS theme setting (Settings > General > Appearance) Light and Dark automatically.

    Many users would want to use dark themes for their apps to work at night, but Mattermost default theme is pretty bright in the dark.

    Right now it should be a manual theme change to switch to the Mattermost dark theme. This would be a great step towards better user experience.

  7. add no reply warning in email template

    Hi team and thank you for your work.
    We are an organization that runs a Mattermost Team Edition instance which is used by near 6.000 users.
    Sometimes, we have users replying directly to email notifications sent by Mattermost. These replies get back to us, and we do not have time to forward it nor to warn the senders that their messages didn't reach the right people.

    Would that be possible to change email template by adding something like (with french translation, it would be awesome though!):
    "Do not reply directly to this email, otherwise people will not get your message"

  8. add functionality for a seperate sound for direct messages/mentions

    I would like to have the option of selecting different sounds for regular message notifications and direct message/mentions notifications, as I am not always near my laptop but am able to hear it, and would like to know audibly if a message was sent in a general chat or to me directly.

  9. Delete channels

    Hello,

    I would like to have the possibility that channels whether private or public can be permanently deleted by system administrators.
    So you can save resources in the database and keep a better overview of the remaining channels.

  11. Get alerted when the status of another user changes

    I would like to get alerted when another user comes online.

    In the proprietary messaging application that is also used in our organization, this feature is available as a right-click menu item labeled "Tag for Status Change Alerts", i.e. you can switch on/off alerts per user. I have always found it very useful so it would be a nice addition to Mattermost.

  13. expand post area on mobile

    On Slack, when I post on mobile and on desktop, it gives me an option to enlarge my input area up to the whole screen, which is very handy, when you post one big sentence (meeting summary, for example, etc).

    Really missing this on MaterMost, it’s really troublesome to input a lot of data into that small field.

    And another reason why I need a lot of data, it’s because we work asynchronious, so everybody think twice before typing and make the typed text be as understandable, as possible.

  15. Allow users, or server admins to configure the width of the channel switcher

    Webapp

    Some of our channel names are just a little too long for the channel switcher, it'd be great to have an extra 50px so they fit in properly and don't get truncated.

    It would be great if this was an option for users, or even as just a config setting in the server/webapp

  17. Create color themes that use OS native colors

    Electron has several API functions for retrieving specific native colors from the operating system. The main function that does this is systemPreferences.getColor(color), but additional features are provided by systemPreferences.getAccentColor() and systemPreferences.getSystemColor(color). I'm not familiar with any examples of applications that have actually used these functions, but they could be especially nice on macOS Big Sur, where the system colors can be "vibrant"; that is, system colors vary slightly based on wallpaper tinting. Supporting native system colors could help the Mattermost desktop app feel even more at home in various desktop environments.

  18. outlook IM

    When clicking on "Send IM" in Outlook, it always opens Zoom Chat instead of MatterMost, because Zoom has an Outlook plug in for Outlook chat, but MatterMost does not.

    The only Outlook plug in available on the MatterMost website is to forward emails. We desperately need a native MatterMost Outlook integration to make MatterMost the default chat/IM application when clicking that button in Outlook.
