Display local time of person you're messaging above text box
Like slack has, would be better to display the local time of the person you're messaging, as we have people on our server from over 4 different time zones

I want to have settings for a private channel where I can only allow channel users to reply to posts.2 votes -
Message button in profile if opened in direct message channel
I am in a private conversation with user 'A' and mention a user 'B'.
We can open the profile of User 'B' but there is no message button to open a direct chat.
In a channel this feature already exists, so it should be also possible to do this in a private conversation2 votes -

Increase notification sound length for sound over HDMI speakers
All notification sounds are too short. On my PC I use sound over HDMI to my monitor speakers. It takes about a second to establish the connection. In that time the sound is already played. If I listen very carefully, I only hear some noise for about a second or two before the sound connection is closed again. But some hardly to hear noise doesn't draw my attention.
This might also be a problem with sound over Bluetooth?2 votes -

Message Forwarding Control in Mattermost
Currently, users cannot forward messages to others in Mattermost. It would be helpful if system admins could control this feature — either allow or restrict forwarding globally or between selected users. This would improve usability while keeping communication secure and flexible.

Add ESR URLs to the latest version redirects
The list of URLs at https://latest.mattermost.com/ that redirect to current Mattermost software is great. Doing an HTTP HEAD request on any of them shows the current semantic version in the Location header, great for checking for patch updates.
For some reason, ESR versions are not listed there. It would be very helpful for sysadmins if your list also had these:
https://latest.mattermost.com/mattermost-enterprise-esr-linux
https://latest.mattermost.com/mattermost-team-esr-linux
which could redirect to the versions marked as Extended Support Release on https://docs.mattermost.com/about/version-archive.html2 votes -
Option to Disable Channel Sorting Based on User Join/Leave Activity
I would like to propose an enhancement to the current channel sorting functionality. Specifically, I would suggest making it possible to sort channels based on activity, while excluding user join/leave events from influencing the sorting order.
The current activity-based sorting is useful for keeping active conversations easily accessible. However, frequent user join/leave events can also cause channel reordering, which may lead to unnecessary disruption, especially in larger teams or public channels where such events are frequent.

Add package install instructions in addition to Docker install instructions
Posting from GitHub Issues thread: https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/58
The first release of Mattermost emphasizes Docker installation, and package install instructions are also being requested.
Please share upvotes for this feature if you agree? Upvoting myself.

Display option to add a click count next to embedded links
Similar to how discourse (https://forum.mattermost.org/) tracks the number of clicks on a link.
Proposed spec:
1) Add Team Setting > Display > Advanced Message Display Options
Title: Advanced Message Display Options
Help text: "Advanced options for message display."
[ ] Show count of clicks next to hyperlinks in messages.
2) If zero clicks have been made on a link, show no indicator.

nano editor
Some of us prefer nano over vi. It can't be that big of a deal to include nano in the container, can it?

allow per-user settings for showing links inline or not, ideally per content type
from https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/1983, While it can be nice to have links to images, youtube videos, etc. that display inline autoexpand to the media that they link to, it would be extremely useful to have a way to turn that off, so that you just get a link instead of losing a massive amount of chat because of the inline media block.

Adding the posting user to the post markup, to enable filtering
posted in http://forum.mattermost.org/t/marking-posts-with-the-user-who-posted-it/912, was told to post it here instead:
I've been playing with mattermost a bit and noticed that posts are not currently marked as having been posted by a specific user - the only element inside a post that identifies the poster is the UserProfile component deep inside the post component tree, so it would be very nice if a component tagged its top with a class like "post__wrapper " for easy chat log filtering: some things that this would unlock:
- hard/soft ignore lists
- hard/soft 'never miss...' lists
- hiding everyone-but-X posts to find information in the backlog

email notifications for new messages and for channel joins look alike and have a similar email notification subject
This behaviour leads to that one could not see at first sight which type of message the notification was for, because the email subject is always "New Mention on...".
It would be more informating and appropriate to choose a email subject that makes clear at first sight which kind of mention the notification is about. (channel join, user disabling, mention, etc)
In my opinion a channel join is no mention in sense of a new message. There is a difference between a new message and other System activities and this should be clear withing the notification email.

include a Trace option in the logging modes.
We were having an issue that was causing Mattermost to continually crash for no apparently reason. Nothing was consistent in the log files, debug didn't give enough information, heck I even did an strace on the PID and wasn't able to get anything useful. A Trace option should include DB calls, perhaps a transaction ID to link the API call to the DB call...

Add user_real_name to outgoing slash commands or webhooks
An outgoing /slash command from mattermost sends information including the token, userid and username in the POST.
We would also like to see userrealname in the POST, without having to do another API call.
For example:
channelid=cniah6qa73bjjjan6mzn11f4ie&
channelname=town-square&
command=/somecommand&
responseurl=not+supported+yet&
teamdomain=someteam&
teamid=rdc9bgriktyx9p4kowh3dmgqyc&
text=hello+world&
token=xr3j5x3p4pfk7kk6ck7b4e6ghh&
userid=c3a4cqe3dfy6dgopqt8ai3hydh&
username=freddy
userreal_name=Fred+Smith1 vote -
Display extended message preview on hover
When you hover a reference to an existing message (such as where one has been quoted in a thread), it would be neat if, when you hover the pointer above the abridged message preview, you could see the full text. This would save a click or two.

Add a system console option to set whether team admins can make a team open
Currently there is an option to restrict team creation. It would be nice to have the option where we let team admins create teams, but restrict open teams to system admins only

Limit matches for @ completion to users in the active channel
With a mattermost setup with hundreds of users, you get a lot of username matches when you type @, however if you're in a channel with only a small subset of the hundred users, you still need to narrow down the list by typing in more characters than necessary to match the name you want. For improved efficiency the list of users to match against shoulld be limited to the users currently on the channel.
This limit should of course not be applied if you are doing /msg @someone, and possibly not even when you mention @someone somewhere inside your…
