Icons for channels
It would be nice to be able to assign an icon (or emoji) to a channel so that it replaces the existing public/private icons in the sidebar. Having a small image that describes the channel allows for people to more easily find a channel that they are looking for in a large list of channels (just like it does for DMs and teams). The space taken up by the existing public/private icons would be better served by a custom image/emoji. If desired, the public/private icons could be retained by making them small overlay icons in the corner much like user…

Create a wizz button, like the old MSN chat
Like the old school MSN chat, it will be nice to add a wizz button or slash command or something else ... ?, meaning we need you to pay more attention to our post, that could be triggered a move on the windows for desktop app, and/or a new notification message.

Android App: Support Gitlab double auth
Actually having a mattermost instance connected to gitlab that use omniauth providers (in my case saml, github and google) is not compatible with the android client.
As it's working on IOS, I suggest that you evolve the android client to make it compatible.
From what I observe, the saml token is being truncated

Easier way to search in a specific channel
The "in:" search operator is useful for power users, but some users don't know how to get the channel ID.
It would be nice to also have something like "Search only in the current channel" checkbox.28 votes -
Allow for tighter spacing in the sidebar
Currently tons of space is being wasted in the sidebar. Allow for tighter spacing of channel/user names so more of the list can be displayed at once.

Use Keycloak as an IDP
Keycloak is one of the most popular IDP providers used.
It would be great it Keycloak could be supported as simple as other authentication providers based on the same technology.

Threads: Proposal for additional usability and readability Option
Dear Team,
thanks for the awesome Mattermost App!I love threads, and i would like to suggest an additional usability and readability option:
Background (or "what drives me mad"):
Everybody knows the flow of conversations, they have the tendency to get unstructurized and important threads of messages get "buried" below new incoming messages in the parent channel.
Also People sometimes dont answer in threads, either they dont want to use threads, or they accidently answer in the parent channel.
This makes things more than often confusing to follow..My Proposal to implement just some options:
How it works Now:

GitLab SSO OAuth SSL Client Certificate
On servers where GitLab+Mattermost are hosted and require SSL client certificates for all connections, Mattermost fails to get a token from GitLab OAuth because its request does not include a client certificate. Please add an option within config.json to include an SSL client certificate within "GitLabSettings" for those requests. Optionally add other SSL-related configurable fields just as CA validation, etc.

Override "I forgot my password" for AD/LDAP Authentication
When using AD/LDAP authentication for the Mattermost Enterprise server there is still an "I forgot my password" link. I suggest that you allow Administrators to override where that link points to. For example, I would like that link to point to my corporate password reset and unlock portal. And/or allow administrators to turn that link off. This could be a part of the "Custom Branding" options on the Enterprise version.
27 votesYou can remove the “forgot password link” by
- setting “Enable sign-in with email” to false
- setting “Enable sign-in with username” to falseThat said, we’ll keep this feature proposal open for customizing the “I forgot my password” link.

Support Mattermost behind Basic Auth
Currently, Mattermost Server usage behind Basic Auth is limited/handicapped due to authentication issues caused by the websocket connection (as it seems, basic auth headers are not propagated correctly).
In our company, public services must be at least secured by basic auth. I guess other companies have same restrictions.
So basic auth support would be a nice feature.

Different user roles to configure
As of now there are only two: 1. Admin 2. Member
Admin, would like to make someone "Manager" who can create private groups but can't delete one. Regular "Member" will not be able to create private groups or channels.

Limit custom emoji visibility to some channels
By default custom emojis are available to every user in the server in every channel.
I would like to be able to restrain the visibility of a custom emoji I upload.
When uploading a custom emoji, I would like to pick in which channel it can be selected.I am interested in implementing this feature myself.

Add github integration
I think, an integration with github will become the most important feature that push mattermost among dev teams, because many companies use private github repositaries for internal software development. Btw. maybe it is related with this feature http://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/9557994-add-git-hooks, but anyway I just wanted stress out particularly github.
Guys, thank you for your great work!

Stop sniffing the User-Agent, use feature detection
The Mattermost web interface uses the User-Agent of the browser, which is a bad idea because browsers can (and do) anyway lie about which browser they are.
As a matter of fact, right now Mattermost will give a warning (and not work) when e.g. using Epiphany (the GNOME Web browser), but changing the User-Agent does work. Because its engine is WebKit, which makes it to support almost everything that Safari does (and Safari is in the list of supported browsers).
What Mattermost should do is feature detection. More info at: https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/3353#event-703118004

Allow Team Admins to see statistics for their Team
Currently only System Admins can see individual team statistics information but it would be helpful to allow team admins to see their own team's statistics.
