Add an option to require explicit opt in consent when registering a new user
Currently, disclaimer text exists in Mattermost directing users to the privacy policy and terms of use, below the create account button (user registration page). I propose that these should be explicit opt-ins using a checkbox or radio button pairing, rather than an assumed opt-in.
Regulations will differ around the world, and people's preferences will differ, so this should probably be a configuration option rather than a flat behavour change.

Chat left/right alignment
Does mattersmost have a feature to make chat like SMS or MSTeams, where the messages sent by yourself are aligned to the right side of the screen and messages from others are on the left side?

Ability to Search only DMs
I would like to search only DMs and exclude searching the channels. In most scenarios, I would have had a conversation with a few people on DMs. I would like to be able to quickly find those conversations without searching in any channels.
I see https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost/issues/7762 has been closed. But the dependent PR has been merged - https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost-webapp/pull/189.
So I would love the see this idea getting implemented.

Recommend a more privacy friendly app than Google Authenticator for MFA
Mattermost suggests that the users use Google Authenticator which is no longer is available under a free license.
I would propose making a different recommendation.- the MFA setting mentions "When true, users with AD/LDAP or email login can add multi-factor authentication to their account using Google Authenticator." But it should mention that any TOTP application will do.
- the MFA setup page only mentions Google Authenticator instead of giving a shortlist of possible apps, such as Aegis, a free and open source application.
As FOSS software, we should promote the use of FOSS software to users and not lead them to…

Collapsed Reply Threads : enable/disable by channel
Hi,
CRTs are great for organizing conversations and reducing noise on some conversations. But there are some use cases where the old way is better for readability and understanding (e.g. direct messages or channels with a few people).
A good feature would be to enable or disable CRT by channels or direct message. Configuring per user and/or per channel may be relevant.

Increase smiley size
Dear team,
As the smiley size is ridiculously low, it could be useful to add a new parameter settings for increase or decrease the smiley size value.

Threads: Proposal for additional usability and readability Option
Dear Team,
thanks for the awesome Mattermost App!I love threads, and i would like to suggest an additional usability and readability option:
Background (or "what drives me mad"):
Everybody knows the flow of conversations, they have the tendency to get unstructurized and important threads of messages get "buried" below new incoming messages in the parent channel.
Also People sometimes dont answer in threads, either they dont want to use threads, or they accidently answer in the parent channel.
This makes things more than often confusing to follow..My Proposal to implement just some options:
How it works Now:

Add native possibility to subscribe to rss feeds in a specific channel
We received a feature request from our users: they'd like to be able to subscribe to one or more rss feeds natively (not with the rss feed plugin which no longer seems to be developed further). News on one of this feeds should be written to a selected channel including a notification for the new message(s).

Put a timer on Banners
We use time-sensitive banners to inform users of ongoing events. If we don't manually disable them, they will run past the event. Could we put an end time on banners, the way that there are end times on statuses?

Add quote reply in addition to collapsed threads
Currently, in order to reply to someone a few messages back, you hit the reply button and it goes into a thread. Alternatively, Mattermost could add a quote button on messages next to the reply button. When you click quote button it should work like reply in modern messengers with text of the message or part of it and name of the creator of the message.
Threads are useful, but creating them for replying to paticular messages can be a bit of an overkill.76 votesLabel and status updated.

Add options for date format display: eg "Monday June 10" instead of "June 10" as headline in channels
Make channels more scannable when catching up on large backlog of messages -- it would be easier to quickly understand if messages are grouped under on a channel included date name as well as month name and date numeral. So create options for format of date displayed within channels. Specifically to include day name.

Close dms directly when clicking to another area (settings opt-in)
Other messenger services offer a user setting where you can hide direct message instances from the left sidebar once you have clicked into it and then clicked to another dm or channel. It would appear again if the person sent you a new message. You can bypass this by pinning or favoriting that user so they always stay in the DM list.
I prefer this system so that the DM area acts as an 'inbox' only, where I can glance and see things that need my attention. Having 10-40 inactive entries is just clutter, esp. on smaller device screen heights…

Add markdown support to attachment.footer
Currently markdown supported on post.text and attachment.text. I suggest to add support markdown to attachment.footer. It would be useful for migration from slack, where some bots and serivces use attachment.footer for adding navigation URL. For example, Grafana alert manager.

Increase notification sound length for sound over HDMI speakers
All notification sounds are too short. On my PC I use sound over HDMI to my monitor speakers. It takes about a second to establish the connection. In that time the sound is already played. If I listen very carefully, I only hear some noise for about a second or two before the sound connection is closed again. But some hardly to hear noise doesn't draw my attention.
This might also be a problem with sound over Bluetooth?2 votes -
Give users a choice between Message Bubble and Message Lines (Current) like Element gives
In Element, they have option to choose how messages are being displayed.
- Message Bubble
- Message without Bubble (They call it Modern)
Not everyone is a fan of Modern Design, especially legacy people.

Introduce a **Check Later Box** for improved async communication
A lot of times people want to drop a message to someone who don't need to check it immediately.
Examples
- Check these PRs when you have time
- Review this doc please
- Hey! I wanted to talk about the deployment process when you have time.
- Hey check this new video out on how TypeScript was created
etc. These are in general low priority items.
With todos and reminders, it's me doing the hard work of adding things to a todo list that I should check later. The current DM doesn't work because if something urgent comes up…
