  4. Only admin or manager should be able to create channels

    All member by default after invited, can create channel, private groups etc.. how to stop this? Only admin should be able to create channels and private groups..

    There was some back and forth among designers about the risk of this feature being detrimental to the concept of a “team”.

    If a few people on a team need to talk about temporary topics like “New logo project”, or “Spring 2016 offsite planning”, it seems easiest for them to create a private group for the discussion and archive it when they were done (note: Channels aren’t ever deleted, all information is archived, so there’s no data loss issue: https://docs.mattermost.com/help/getting-started/organizing-conversations.html#deleting-a-channel).

    An option to restrict this feature could degrade the user experience. People would have to talk about niche topics inside other channels, distracting teammates who aren’t involved, or clutter the public channel list with overly narrow topics.

    Despite these problems, there’s a case to be made for large organizations where social policy doesn’t scale, so the option has been added to Enterprise Edition and kept the complexity out of…

  5. Auto-notify users when replying to post

    When replying to a post, we currently have to tag the user for them to get a notification. It seems like replies should trigger a notification automatically - even better, make it a setting we can turn on or off (although I can't imagine why someone would want it off).

  6. iOS and Android apps should allow multiple server connections

    right now in the iOS app if you setup an instance I do not see a way to setup another one and seeing as how the current architecture of the product is, I would need multiple servers for my org's needs. the app should be able to handle it as well.

    The Mobile v2.0 beta featuring multi-server support is now live!

    Our most-requested mobile feature ever is now live via the Mobile v2.0 beta - thanks to everyone who has upvoted this feature! Users must opt-in to become testers via Testflight (iOS) or Google Play (Android) to download the “Mattermost Beta” app. Please note that this is a separate app from the production “Mattermost” app that exists in the app stores today, meaning you can use both at the same time.

  7. Hide message contents in notification popups

    Have an option to hide the contents of a message when a notification popup occurs. Just show the channel and that there is a new message. This allows us to keep it private if there is someone over your shoulder looking at your screen.

  9. Make commenting a one-click easy action

    Commenting on a post right now is a (relatively) arduous process--I have to go to the side of the post, click the "..." icon, and then click reply. Once that's been done once on a post, the comment box shows up, but it's still way off to the side and a pain to get to. Because of this, pretty much no one uses the comment features, which causes the channels to get very cluttered without organization.

    The far easier and more intuitive way would be to click on a post and get the option to reply to the post right…

  10. Exporting data

    It would be great if mattermost allows to export all of user data(users, channels, message, ...).

    I think it is important to persuade my coworkers to start to use mattermost.

  11. Utilize full witdth of screen for chat

    The chat wastes a lot of screen space on devices with a large screen.

  12. add previews for PDF attachments

    When you attach JPEG or PNG images to a comment, a preview thumnail is generated. This helps a lot when scanning through messages and makes the channels pleasant to look at.

    At the moment, PDF attachments show only a generic PDF logo, so all PDF attachments look alike!

    It would be really nice if preview thumbnails could be generated for PDF attachments. Usually the first page of the PDF is used for this purpose.

  13. Filter usernames in direct messages list

    When there is a lot of usernames, it's complicated to find one to send him a direct message.

    It will be helpfull to have a filter field under de "direct messages" menu, to filter the usernames list.

    Introducing Voice Calling and Screen Sharing in Channels!

    Thanks to everyone who has upvoted this feature. We're excited to announce voice calling and screen sharing is available in beta with Mattermost v7.0. Whether it's a quick call for when something is easier to talk through than type out, recurring office hours, a timely screen share to demo something, or a several day war room discussion to fix a critical issue - there's tons great use cases for voice calls in Mattermost that don't require leaving the ecosystem.

    Interested in trying it out? You'll need to upgrade to Mattermost v7.0 and as a beta feature, it must be enabled by your server's System Administrator. You can learn more in our release blog, and can direct any feedback or questions to feature channel.

  18. Allow opening up a team so people can join without invites

    In open source projects (like those run by Wikimedia!) it is important that everyone be able to join openly without needing an explicit invite. Having some support for this would be great and also definitely help stem some of the flow from IRC to Slack, redirecting it to mattermost instead.

    There is a setting for this under Team Settings → General → Allow anyone to sign-up from login page in Mattermost v1.2 and up.

    Setting it to “yes” will add a sign up link to the login page, so anyone is able to create an account.

  19. Clicking on a search result should bring up the conversation history around that search result

    When searching, and search results are found of a conversation, it would be good that clicking that search result brings up the context of that conversation so that the user can easily see what was discussed before and after what was found by search.

  20. Pinned posts

    It'd be great to be able to pin a post within a channel (although maybe only the channel owner?). I used the description of a channel to include an overview and a list of links to helpful resources, but the channel description only shows one line of text next to the title until you hover over it, which isn't the most intuitive.
