Ability to disable rendering of animated emoji, or to hide posts, to improve performance
The problem I am having is that in some channels when users are using tons of animated emojis, I am seeing my CPU sit at >=30%. If I then switch to a more static channel, the CPU usage drops off the top of the list.
The feature I would love is to either:
* Have the ability to disable the rendering of animated emojis (or gifs?)
* Or to have the ability to hide postsCurrently I have to make sure never to leave a heavy animated channel as my active channel.

More Granular Session lengths for SSO authentication
Currently the configurations for SSO authentication session lengths allow for a single digit value representing days that the authenticated session will last before expiring and forcing a re-authentication.
There has been quite a bit of interest within my teams to have this more granular, specifically down to a number of hours (with our preference being somewhere around the length of a work day- 8hours). By doing something less than a single day, with people having varying schedules, it would guarantee that almost everyone will need to re-authenticate when coming back to work. As is, it can happy sporadically depending on…

Add context menu for messages on desktop client
The same menu that shows when clicking the "..." icon to the right, including reactions and reply, should appear when right-clicking on any given message.
It is a major usability inconvenient when using a large screen, to have to move the mouse all the way to the right edge of the screen in order to click that.

Integrate with Starleaf video conferencing
I would like to see an integration with Starleaf video conferencing. Starleaf is a great VC product and would be a good fit with Mattermost

Add a pin icon directly accessible
Would it be possible to have an icon to pin a message directly, without having to click on the 3 dots? The solution would be either next to the "Flag" icon on the left (my prefered solution, like the picture below), or next to the Emoji icon on the right?

Using hashtags to trigger mentions
Currently it is not possible to configure hashtags to trigger a mention.
Example: if "#release" is configured as a word that triggers mentions using this hashtag in a message doesn't trigger a notification. if "release" is configured as trigger, both "release" and "#release" in a message trigger a notification.(our current workaround for notification purposes is to only use words in hashtags that are usually not used in messages - which can lead to unwanted notifications)

Unread message notifier in launcher icon in Linux
On Ubuntu 19.04, the mattermost desktop client does not indicate unread messages in the launcher (I mean adding a little pop-up symbol to the icon as shown in this post about Windows #194).
I don't know if that is intended (no comparison on other systems). For thunderbird a similar thing exists, but I wouldn't know how to implement right away. I suggest a permanent "red dot" indicating new messages, or optionally a counter.

Add a file download progress bar
You constantly need to check Explorer to see if file has finished downloaded or not, very bothersome. A progress bar / download indicator will be very helpful.

Add a feature to create custom command alias within Mattermost client
We would like a feature to allow leveraging slash command integrations so that users could create custom aliases locally. For instance, one of our integration commands is '/zoom' with additional arguments of 'join' and '<meeting ID>'. We would like to be able to create a custom alias so that a user could always include the arguments along with the slash command without entering 'join' and their 'meeting ID' each time they use the integration.

Add option to disable 2FA on per-account basis
For automation purposes, it can be desirable to disable the two-factor authentication enforcement for an individual account. In particular, bots such as Matterbridge cannot handle the 2FA requirement/enforcement.

Dismiss a direct group messaging
We created a group chat of up to 7 people, but when we finished the group chat, we can't dismiss the group. Group members can only remove the group from the private channel, and can not dismiss the group. Other members can still see the group and send messages. The removed group will appear in the private channel again when other member send a message.
I hope that the creator of the group chat can dismiss the group, and all members of the group will leave the group after the dissolution.23 votes -

Create the possibility to make unread answers more prominent
I suggest a way to make the newly received messages more prominent and pronounced.
The reason here is that my father has some issues in reading and quickly overreads new messages except for the very last one. I thought if it was ideally possible to put a e.g. reddish background to all new messages the same way as there is a tiny line with the text new message. For an image see https://forum.mattermost.org/t/how-to-make-unread-answers-more-prominent/7627.
I am thinking if such a background similar to the light gray one behind a self written message. Maybe a bit more prominent.
Also as a…

Uploaded mp4 video files should display with the play controls and preview frame
ummary: Uploaded mp4 video files should display with the play controls and preview frame directly inside the channel for recognizability and immediate playback.
Description: Just as image files received an image preview feature with 4.7 I would like to suggest the same behavior for mp4 video files. Currently there is only an icon and file information in the channel. With a lot of videos uploaded to a channel it becomes hard to distinguish the files.
Also, adding the video play controls below would make it faster to browse through videos.
Could this be implemented using the html5 <video> tag with…

Add an option to hide the menu bar
In the desktop client, it could be useful to have an option to hide the menu bar by default (Signal desktop has this, also an Electron-based app), since it's not used that much in day-to-day usage. It could appear when pressing alt (Signal does this, as well as Firefox). Ideally I'd like the application to be more in-line with Gnome design, using a headerbar, but I realize this would be larger thing, and may not be desirable in a third-party application…

Have OS X client integrate with native system text services
In all other OS X apps, including Chrome, a variety of standard system services will be available to use with the selected text. For example, looking up the selected word in the dictionary or searching for it on the web. Users can also install custom text services systemwide.
