  1. Try to use less CPU / energy in native Mac App

Right now the Mattermost native Mac app is using a lot of CPU, pretty consistently over 10%, which seems really high for an app of this type. What could it possibly be doing to use that much CPU? The energy impact is almost up there with known battery drainers like Chrome and Firefox. I know it's a beta, so please consider this some beta-user feedback. Thanks!

  3. Allow Mattermost App on Windows select specific Web Browser for opening links

Default to OS default web browser, but allow Mattermost to override the OpenIn browser selection.

  4. make Shift-Up select from the list of recent messages to reply to

Currently Shift-Up allows for a quick reply to the latest message, but what if someone just said something and the one you want is no longer the latest?

Repeated presses could move up through the message history, allowing to reply to a message that isn't the latest.

Likewise, Shift-Down (currently unused) could move down the list (and, optionally, all the way back to the main input field like Ctrl-Shift-L)

  5. Notificiation settings per server

If using Mattermost with more than one Server it would be great if the user could have separate notification settings or the option to mute one or more selected servers.

  6. maintain right hand sidebar (RHS) open state, when switching between teams (4.1.2)

Every time I switch between teams, the sidebar closes.

I'm looking to have the sidebar open 100% of the time, because it's functionally useful and it's more cognitive load when screen looks different after every team switch (often).

  7. Add the posibility to have a list of teams instead of the very small squares in the teams column

The small squares of team names are very difficult to find a team in as the team name does not fit in the little square.
I would like to have the option to have a list similar to the one with topics within a team instead of those small squares.

  8. Show Emoji picker for current message when hovering on message and typing space

It is a bit cumbersome to select an emoji reaction since the button is fairly small and all the way to the right. I suggest to open the emoji reaction picker when hovering on a message and typing space.

  9. windows people

    Summary
Microsoft now supports pinning conversations within applications to the taskbar through what they call the My People API:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/contacts-and-calendar/my-people-support

It looks like it primarily supports windows store apps/c#, so it might not be possible to do with electron/node. It's also OS-specific, which isn't really beneficial to the app as a whole.

  10. Switch the status color indicator to the background of the icon

User icons are okay now on the left side list but would it be even more clear to switch the icon color to white and change the background color for the status? Please check the link for a demo:

  11. Open channels and direct messages in different windows (Desktop apps)

Right now we use Mattemost for communication about projects and Spark/Jabber/XMPP for direct messages. The reason we prefer Spark over Mattermost is that we can have each communication in a different app window and that makes it easier if you communicate with more people at once. Typical use case is that you send a question to your colleague and keep the window open until you get the answer.

  12. Use AppData/Local for cached data on Windows

For Windows all local Mattermost data is stored inside of %APPDATA% (AppData/Roaming).
This directory syncs between computers on every login / logout in certain corporate environments.

Cache data should be placed inside AppData/Local.

  15. CTRL+F performs a browser-like search in the desktop app

One missing piece in the desktop apps is CTRL+F browser-like search.

There is a plan to implement 'search in current channel' (https://github.com/mattermost/desktop/issues/305), but implementing the browser-like find feature is closer to the web app experience

There is existing electron APIs for finding something on the page: http://electron.atom.io/docs/api/web-contents/#contentsfindinpagetext-options

  16. Preprovision native client apps

As i'm rolling out the native Windows client to a lot of users (via windows software distribution) i'd like to be able to pre-provision the app with our mattermost servers url (and maybe other settings). It would be great if the client would support some way of getting it's initial configuration for example via a config file distributed with it.
I've posted it to the windows category but i guess this would be nice (and just as easy to implement) on every platform. Mobile apps might be more difficult though.
