Switch channels between different teams
It is not possible to use ctrl+k to switch to a channel or private group in another team.
Why is this restricted? I don't think it is a good idea to force the user to use their mouse. This is not very productive.15 votes -
Change email notification behavior
Right now, if I only use the browser and switch to different tabs my status changes from green to yellow. If someone sends me a direct message, I receive an email. That's annoying. I don't want to disable email notification as a whole. It makes much more sense to only send emails about messages I received while I was offline.

Make switch channel more intuitive
If I open the switch channel dialog and begin to type the beginning of a name for which several entries exist, then this list is ordered alphabetically and does not take into account open chats with people.
This feature is only useful if you want to speed up navigation. I expect the dialog to show open chats before others so you dont have to navigate in the list to select the correct entry.

Restore should be in Team edition or Channel delete in Team edition should be permanent
If i delete a channel i cannot create a new one with same name. nor can i restore the previous channel without enterprise edition.
I suggest to move feature of restoring to Team edition. Alternatively make channel deletions permanent so another channel with same name can be created.

Release RPM packages for those on rpm-based systems
I recently switched to fedora and now i can't install the mattermost desktop app using rpm - because there's no rpm package.
Thus I suggest you also release a rpm package (thanks to electron-builder this should be a pretty easy task)

Option to disable user "Access History"
Mattermost seems to log all user IP as a default.
Maybe it would be a nice option to opt-out per user or system wide the logging of all IP addresses.4 votes -

Use AppData/Local for cached data on Windows
For Windows all local Mattermost data is stored inside of %APPDATA% (AppData/Roaming).
This directory syncs between computers on every login / logout in certain corporate environments.Cache data should be placed inside AppData/Local.

Use the "fallback" field from Slack's webhook attachment format as text for notification, when the provided text is empty.
The slack attachment format defines a fallback field, that is required for attachments to be valid, and is used when the full-formatted message is not usable in a particular context (e.g. text-mode clients, notifications).
For example, Slack uses that fallback field for the text of notifications. I believe that Mattermost should do the same.
That would require changes on the webhook-related code, on the format of the post object that is forwarded in Javascript, and on the code that generates the text shown in notifications. I could work on a PR if you are favorable to the idea.

Hotlink preview for uploaded image instead of thumbnail
When uploading images it will be nice to have a preview features (like when entering an image through a link) instead of the current generated thumbnail which is not very representative of the image. This is somehow how Slack is showing uploaded image.

Use correct typographical symbols for all user-facing strings such as curly quotes for apostrophes (‘’) and quotes (“”)
Use correct typographical symbols for all user-facing strings such as curly quotes for apostrophes (‘’) and quotes (“”).
You should also avoid other typographical mistakes like n-dashes (–) and ellipsis (…) characters.

Slash commands progress indicator
Mattermost should have a way of showing that a slash command was executed, and awaiting response. At the moment you have no way of knowing if your command was sent out or not until a potential response arrives. For slow services this is raither tedious as you begin doubting if the message was sent or not, and might end up sending it multiple times.

Prevent non-admin users to rename channels
I'm aware of your business model and I'm fine with an advanced permissions system in the paid edition. I'm also aware that you carefully thought through the channel management for basic users (see https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/1764) and think it's a good way of approaching things.
But please, consider removing the ability for every one to rename channels. This is not useful, doesn't really make sense and more importantly leaves the ability for anyone to ruin a setup (prank or sabotage). It also gives a feeling of totally uncontrolled environment for these users.
This small feature makes me question the entire usage…

Add ability to send permalinks via email/sms
The ability to generate and copy permalinks is great, but it would be awesome if there was an ability to share that URL, so that standard iOS share sheets, or Android intents, could be used to send urls via Gmail, iMessage, etc. Would make it much easier to integrate into our workflow.

Support different sets of Emoji / allow users to switch Emoji styles
Slack (sorry --) supports different styles of Emoji, which would be awesome because I'm not a big fan of the current emojoy style ^^

Android App: Support Gitlab double auth
Actually having a mattermost instance connected to gitlab that use omniauth providers (in my case saml, github and google) is not compatible with the android client.
As it's working on IOS, I suggest that you evolve the android client to make it compatible.
From what I observe, the saml token is being truncated

send message later
I'd find it realy useful to be able to send a message later at a given date and time (e.g. like Buffer).
Often, I'd find some useful or interesting info I want to post to the team chat at off-hours, and the message could either be overlooked because the timestamp will be quite old during work hours, or I'd disturb team members who have hot keywords defined and get notified automatically.340 votes -
Order DM and Members list by online indicator
- Member list (popup box) in the header
- Direct Messages list
- If you can change order by in this lists to order first by online status, then second by name, then it could be more useful.
5 votesThe member list in the channel header now orders members by their online status and then by their name.

Autocomplete nickname with initial + Tab, and not only @initial + tab
Autocompleting usernames on initial followed by <Tab> has become a widespread standard since IRC, and is available in all Mattermost alternatives (Slack, HipChat, etc.).
Mattermost allows autocompleting usernames only when @ is used, but this serves a different purpose: linking usernames. Simple and straightforward autocompletion is still usefull in live conversations and the use of @ can be akward, or even difficult on some keyboard layouts. Simple autocompletion is actually missed by some users, and for instance I have a potential team member that refuses to join if he cannot use this basic feature he has been using for…
