Add "What i do" field in General Settings
In large organization sometimes people don't know each other. Slack has "What i do" field and people can describe what their role in the organization there (like "I am Software Engineer" or "Internet Marketting"). Adding field like this in General Setting will be very helpful.
This field should appear in user profile box when we hover on someones name too.
3 votesThanks for the suggestion Wendy. The “Position” field in Account Settings shipped with Mattermost v3.6.

Add keyboard shortcut for quick reply to last message
For me it is kind of annoying, that I have to use the mouse if I want to reply a message. I'd really love the feature of having a shortcut (something like Shift+up, because up is edit last message), which lets me automatically reply to the last message in the conversation. Do you think this would be feasible?
39 votesThis feature is complete and you can use SHIFT + up to reply to the last message in the channel.

Better notifications between teams
When I receive a message from another team I can't see from which team it was sent. Maybe introduce a better notification system for persons who are in multiple teams on the same server.
46 votesThanks for supporting the feature idea for better cross team notifications – we’ve added a team sidebar available in Mattermost 3.6 to improve the notification experience.

JavaScript plugins
It would be useful to be able to inject JavaScript code in order to extend the interface with new functionnalities.
22 votesThis is now supported! Mattermost has released a plugin framework. It is currently in Beta as we add more features for the framework.
For more info, see:

Add support for S3 server-side-encryption
AWS S3 supports server-side-encryption it would be good if this could be either enabled by default, or configured.
It looks like this should be a fairly small change - the goamz library already has an "SSE" bool flag in the S3 options structure which enables server-side-encryption.
I don't have any experience with go, but I'd be happy to attempt to add this feature myself.

Allow channel headers to be locked down
In channels with 200+ members, people sometimes mess up with the channel headers and this is unwanted when important announcements are being made up there. I think the "topic" should be able to be locked down and write-able only by admins, just like on irc.
Maybe a global option to lock the headers to channel creators? Or allow certain people to change the headers (permissions?).

resize conversation window
It would be handy to be able to resize the conversation window to make it wider. I have just posted some code in there where some of the lines are longer than the width of the conversation window so they wrap. it makes it kinda hard to comprehend it.
Yes I can of course view the message in the "main" window but this lessens the value of the conversation window.
3 votesThanks for the suggestion, this is completed and available by clicking the expand/collapse icon in the Message Details header on the right-hand-side.

Search in System Console
The system console is starting to get very large, and it might be a useful feature to get to a setting quickly via search, similar to search in smartphone settings.

Mail notification subject contain channel's name
The email is sent when someone who are in channel mentioned.
But, there is no information about channel name in email notification.
(cf. push notification has channel name information on it.)For better identification, I think that email notification need to provide channel name to mail subject.

Mattermost protocol implementation for libpurple (Pidgin/Adium/Instanbird)

Mark messages
A function to mark messages to be handled later would be very useful. If you get a message with a task and you can't handle it instantly it would be great to mark it, f.e. with a star, to find it later easily. And if you could generate a list with all marked messages to have a "task list" this would be best!
6 votesThanks to your votes, flagged messages is now available in Mattermost 3.3!

make maximum number of channels per team configurable
Currently, the maximum number of channels per team is hardcoded to 1000.
It'd be nice if this were configurable, much like

Editing other user’s messages through API
Letting bots edit people's messages through the REST API. As such, bots could replace keywords with links and such, instead of posting new messages and spamming the channel. For instance, with a Github integration, a user typing in "#200" would replace the keyword to a link to issue #200.

Windows distribution via Chocolatey
Moving from GitHub issues so this feature idea can be discussed and upvoted: https://github.com/mattermost/desktop/issues/124
Chocolatey is a distribution tool for Windows applications, including many free software applications (for example, https://chocolatey.org/packages/pidgin). It allows an end-user to get application updates somewhat like using apt or yum on GNU/Linux.

Keep only one running instance of the desktop
A workflow for me with other apps is to use the Start/Search to find the app in question and then open it there. If the app ran already, I'd open that app (f.ex. with Outlook or Skype for Business).
With the MM app for Windows, I get a new instance of the running app.
Could you open the existing instance if there is one?
3 votesThank you Michael for nominating the feature! It is available in Mattermost Desktop App 3.4.

Typing a mention should also suggest based on full name
Currently (3.1.0) when mentioning a user by typing @ the suggestion list is adapted based on the username. This should be extended to match based on the full name as well.
4 votesThank you Tim for nominating the feature! The improvement has been added for v3.2.

Channel option to count every message as mention
We have several channels, with only purpose - bot notification on some actions. People who interests - can join such channels. But some people don't satisfied only desktop notifications - they want email and push notifications on every message in such channels. But this kind of notifications only applied to mentions.
