Option for channel specific push notifications
Currently, posh notifications across multiple channels are automatically stacked into a single notification card.
This makes it very difficult to keep tabs on active conversations happening across multiple subscribed channels when the app is it if focus.

Allow editing of messages only for a given time
You should be able to set a duration in which you are able to edit your own messages. This way you can correct typos but can't change whole content of old messages.

Add possiblility for a default team when using external auth (like LDAP)
We use LDAP auth and users are able to login without being member of any team. We are now running a cronjob ensuring every user is part of our company wide team.
We would like the possibility to have mattermost assign newly logged in users to a default team.
19 votesThis use case is now available with AD/LDAP Groups, available in Mattermost Cloud and Mattermost Self-Managed E20.

Ability to prevent specific channels from mentioning you
Sometimes you are in a channel that a BOT posts too. For example a For example a GitLab bot can mention you as it may say @username opened issue #14 for example. It may be nice to prevent a channel from mentioning if you don't want that specific mention especially if you are the person that generated the BOT interaction, causing you to trigger a mention on something you did yourself.
1 voteThis is now possible with muting a channel: https://docs.mattermost.com/help/settings/channel-settings.html#mute-channel.

Keep red-dot-notifications in tray when receiving a message with MM-client in background
Found behavior (Windows 10): MM-client is in the background (e.g. when reading stuff in another window) and I receive a direct message, then the red dot in the tray appears just to disappear directly after, IF the last opened channel was the one where I got the message. Somehow the app doesn't recognize that it is not in focus and thinks the message has been read.
Due to this we missed some communication as we "lose" red circles indicating new messages. Tried several notification-configurations but no luck so far.
Thanks a lot for helpful ideas or a fix!22 votesThis issue has been resolved.

Don't embed images directly
Hey,
we are enterprise customers (if that matters).
We played around with mattermost a while with a small team first and fixed several stuff for our use (mostly small stuff like CSS), but one thing should really have an option in the admin panel (in our opinion).
You should be able to prepend a generic media proxy URL (like https://github.com/atmos/camo) to preview'd media. We ended up hardcoding it, what is not much a problem. But in our opinion embedding images directly is a security risk (ip-leaks, csrf attacks, ...) and also could break ssl.
The preview could use some…
18 votesThank you Tom for the feature proposal!
Mattermost v4.7 and later support an image proxy. You can deploy it with atmos/camo https://github.com/atmos/camo

when typing code with ```, Enter should not send the message
In Advanced Preferences in Slack there is an option that allows the [enter] behavior to change while in a code block (```).
It would be nice to have this in mattermost.
24 votesMattermost 5.4 adds a new setting what lets you send code block messages with CTRL+ENTER, instead of on ENTER
Thank you everyone for nominating this feature!

Add option to disable message sending on 'Return' key press
Many times I send unfinished messages because I press Return to keep writing in a new line, instead of combining it with Shift.
I think it would be a great idea to add an option to disable the Return default behavior (keeping the current behavior as default option).
1 voteThis feature already exists and can be accessed by clicking on the 3-dot main menu —> Account Settings —> Advanced —> Send messages on CTRL + ENTER

Client UI API
The Mattermost current have the necessary basic feature. But current only have API to extend in the chat channel.
I think it is possible to create a UI API. The developer can write a plugin host on online.
If somebody's Mattermost server add this (self-)hosted service, the Mattermost client will call it and pull some JavaScript to change current client UI, and developer can create more feature for it.
For example, we can embedded the Github issue tracker sidebar inside it, but didn't to use any webhook.
Another benefits is the Mattermost server host can customize their Mattermost without build…
21 votesThis is now supported! Mattermost has released a plugin framework. It is currently in Beta as we add more features for the framework.

Android push-notification play even with chat open
the open push notif library dont seem to take into account that the app or chat is open, so while having a discussion you get spammed with alerts.

Keyboard shortcuts for new messages.
I would like Ctrl + N or Cmd + N to bring up the direct messages pop-up. Once a username is the last in the filter box and is highlighted, allow the enter key to start the new conversation
5 votesThank you Edwin for nominating the feature! The keyboard shortcut CTRL+K and CMD+K let’s you switch to a direct message channel (even if it hasn’t been started before), with Mattermost 3.5 and later.

Add ability for administrators to restrict archiving of channels
Users are prevented from archiving Town Square, but users are able to archive any other channel
54 votesSeveral options were considered for this feature, including:
- Separate permissions for archiving, renaming, modifying and creating channels
- Adding a new role for managing channels
- Offering individual permissions for manipulating channelsApplying the fast, obvious, forgiving design principle we arrived at the least complex solution of the options, which was to combine restrictions for creating, renaming and updating channel information, in addition to restricting archiving.
The goal was to keep things simple, so that users either “can do everything” or “can do nothing” and aren’t confused about their permissions.
This feature has been added as an optional IT policy in Mattermost E10.
This was also considered for Team Edition, but it didn’t seem appropriate for a “virtual office” where everyone knew each other well. It would be like having locks on the conference room doors to keep people from erasing things off the whiteboards.

Mute specific channels in app / more granular control of notifications
I have some channels that I just don't care about if I'm away from my desk and on my mobile (e.g. a channel that Hubot posts RSS feeds into). Ideally I'd like the ability to see all my channels and have granular control over notifications, so I could select something like:
"System Alerts" channel: notify desktop and mobile
"RSS" notify desktop only
"Off-Topic" no notifications43 votesThis feature was shipped with v4.5 on December 16th.

Windows Mattermost Client: Make us of the Window Caption
Do the same as the pure Mattermost website, which is changing the HTML <title>. Just copy the web page <title> into the Main Window Caption. As a Manic Time User, this would allow me to summarize the time spend at the different channels, groups and messages.

Make notification about new message persistent
Notification about new message stays active only for few seconds and then disappears. Thus it's hard to keep track of new messages.
Is it possible to make them persistent (not dissappears until clicked or any other activity) or increase time they stays active?Al the members of our team suffering from this issue. It would be perfect feature to implement.
The same issue was described on github: https://github.com/mattermost/desktop/issues/91
