Button to minimize inline images (ex: GIFs plugin)
Users can minimize an image preview of an URL that is directly pasted in the message, with the cross button at the top left corner. However, there is no such button if the same image is inlined with the folowwing syntax .
It'd be useful to have a way of minimizing inline images, like Slack does and like Mattermost does for raw URL previews.
This is a follow-up on multiple requests from the users of moussetc/mattermost-plugin-giphy on GitHub (Issue 12).

Allow me to customize my ignore mentions list for notifications
Currently we can set notifications to
Ignore mentions for @channel, @here and @all
. I would like to customize that list, much like the opposite of the user settings for triggering mentions.3 votes -

Option to disable spell checking
Currently, spell checking is always enabled and cannot be disabled.
To some users, the red underlining is visually distracting. Also, the spell checker is currently unable to detect on-the-fly, in-sentence language switching, which is sometimes used in mixed-language teams or when discussing mixed-language subjects (like programming).
Therefore, I'd like to suggest adding an option to permanently disable spell checking - either in the configuration, or, in the input bar's context menu, where the spell check language is usually selected.
In the input bar it could look like this:

Option to setup the ping warning before sending @here or @channe
I'm getting an annoying warning every time I send an @here message to my team. Could you please make this configurable?

Automatic detection of programming language syntax when you send code with markdown and the language is not specified
When sending code with this markdown syntax: https://docs.github.com/en/free-pro-team@latest/github/writing-on-github/creating-and-highlighting-code-blocks#fenced-code-blocks
And if the language is not specified for the highlighting. I propose to create a detection and an automatic addition of the language. Automatic detection with this library: https://highlightjs.org/

Make team tabs optional
The new wide tab bar steals useful screen real estate, introduces visual redundancy to our single-server setup (team name mentioned twice within a really small area of UI), and makes the app look even less at home on macOS. The old top of the window bar at least looked native. Please consider making the tab bar optional at least in single-server environments.

Add 'Mark Read' option in right click of Channel(or Group) to clear notification icon
I suggest to have 'Mark read' option for any Channel in Mattermost.
There may have few groups which are integrated to get notification of JIRA updates or Jenkins to build status. Loads of messages are received there and one will see notification icon until one open that channel.
It will be great if Mattermost provides 'Mark Read' kind of function to clear particular channel notifications without opening channel chat.
I would recommend having this as a right-click option of a channel.

Mute channel categories
For example I have categories for different projects, would be great to mute all of a project's channels while I'm focussing on a different one.

Channel Creator Info for Desktop & Web App
While the Mattermost Mobile app has the feature of tapping on the channel header to see more information that includes who created the channel and the date:
"Created by XXX on XXX XX, XXXX"
Users have to scroll all the way to the beginning of the channel for desktop and web app. This will be challenging especially for channels that have a lot of content.
It will be great if we can have similar feature for desktop and web app as well where users can click on the channel header > view info and show the same information.

Allow users to choose the Audio device for notifications, including 'All Devices'
In the desktop app, the user is able to select which windows audio device, or All Devices, is used for notification. The option to follow the OS' current selection, or override with your own selection. Sometimes when using the headset as the default OS output device, it would be nice for alerts to be played on the external speakers and/or headset, as chosen by the user

Notify a user when they are removed from a channel
When a user is removed from a channel, they aren't notified in any way - the channel just disappears from their window. It would be helpful to indicate that you've been removed.

Private channels and messages to be sorted by the date of last received message
I think it would be preferable for the list of private channels and messages to be sorted by the date of last received message.
Currently this list is sorted alphabetically and it's impossible to find last messages if you receive a lot of it.8 votes -
Make CMD+Enter work as a shortcut for saving an edited message.
Currently, when people have "Send messages with CMD+Enter", this shortcut does not work in the message editing window and people have to save their edited messages with a mouse click.
I propose the message editing window to behave the same as the message sending box works.Originally submitted as a bug: https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost-server/issues/14934

Sort users by last name in private chat list
In my opinion, it is very usefull to sort users by their last name. Now they are sorted by first name and it is very annoying. We have more people with same forename but fewer with same last name. It is more logical to sort them alpaphetically by last name than forename.

Synchronise drafts between (mobile and desktop) clients
I currently use Mattermost from the web client and an iPhone. It would be great if draft messages were synchronised between the different clients.
This is not something that sounds particularly useful in the abstract, but it is a feature of Telegram and I found I would often write half a message and then remember that I had a relevant link or similar on a different platform, so want to continue the message where I could copy-paste that link. Now that we have switched to using Mattermost, I am missing it.
