Highlight part of conversation
It'd be lovely if there was a way to highlight text in an ongoing thread/discussion. It's quite common that when posting long texts, the responding person/people miss part of what has been entered.
E.g. I'll enter three paragraphs of text, the person/people responding completely miss out on what's entered in the second paragraph. Rather than having to enter "As I was saying, above, in my second paragraph...", it'd be very useful to be able to highlight a block of text.
Not sure if I should only be able to highlight parts of my own text, or any text.

Support for syntax highlighting in Mattermost Boards
Mattermost Boards should support, in Cards text content, code blocks with language specification. For example:
// Your First Program class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello, World!"); } }

Provide an option to show the amount of new messages in a channel
Actually we can see our amout of new mention in a channel, is it possible to do same thing with new messages ?
I think the bold text for new messages isn't visible enough, with a sort of buble like mentions it can be more visible.

Improve customization of push notification messages
Currently push notifications have very limited customizing potential. There is support to provide localized content, but the code assumes always prepends the sender's name to the notification text.

collapse [-] PUBLIC CHANNELS
We use the favorite channels and direct messages, and therefore would like to collapse the public channels. Then channels with unread messages would only be shown.

seen messages in direct message or channel
In Telegram you can see who read the message in channel.
I think it's good feature, because right now I gotta set reaction on message to let know user who mentioned me that I read it and he doesn't need to repeat it me in DM. also we want this on direct message

add support for syslog output
It's a pain to deal with many scattered logfiles, so syslog support would be a welcome alternative.
The only extra configuration despite enabling, and the loglevel should be the syslog facility.

Customize search clause for fulltext search
Currently search clause for fulltext is using "@@" operator for PostgreSQL with tsvector/tsquery. But I would like to use "LIKE" operator with re-generated index for better search using language specific algorithm(e.g. Japanese).
Now search clause template is "@@ %s". I would like to replace it to "LIKE %s" or "LIKE func(%s)".

Option to disable user "Access History"
Mattermost seems to log all user IP as a default.
Maybe it would be a nice option to opt-out per user or system wide the logging of all IP addresses.4 votes -
Custom intro text for system, team and channels
Custom intro text for a system, team or channel, similar in set up to Custom Tutorial Text with markdown support and preview, that is displayed to a user when joining a specific system, team or channel, and the user needs to hit "Okay" to dismiss. The user should be able to find the message in the system, team or channel settings to review the info.
Requesting this because often organizations want to share more about the purpose of their Mattermost deployment, and include different links, e.g. link to naming conventions to use for channels, an internal user's guide to the…

I can search easily for a group name on iPhone, but there is not the same convenient matching feature on macOS.
I can search easily for a group name on iPhone, but there is not the same convenient matching feature on macOS. Also on iPhone, I see all unread messages at top of list, on macOS I have to scan the whole list to find unread messages. So the macOS client needs to catch up with the iPhone.

Sending payload in »application/json« for slash commands
Almost all integrations in Mattermost send or receive payloads with a »application/json« content type. Incoming Webhooks, Outgoing Webhooks (configurable, see ticket https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost-server/issues/1649), Interactive Message Buttons… but not »Slash Commands«. Slash Commands are the only integration type, which sends it payload as »application/x-www-form-urlencoded«. Please allow sending a slash command with »application/json«.

List accepted (and not yet ones) invitations
Keep track to whom accepted invitation and those who didn't yet.
When you send invitations to many people, you can't know for sure who actually accepted so you may want to resend invitations to your list of contacts (and again… And again…).4 votes -
Policy for new account to change the initial password
Hello world,
we host mattermost by our own. So it is not allowed to register by your self. Our admin create the user with a initial password.
So it will be good, that the user have to change the initial password.
What do you think about it?
Best reguards

Read-only for external clients
It would be great to send secure links of an private channel to a client for status updates.
What i want to do is:
I want to start a new channel and write status updates or some information about the progress of an project.
External clients should be able to view this channel only and see what has been posted und get current state if they want.
But they should not be forced to register a new account. (Read/view only).4 votes -
Galera cluster support
Galera cluster provides multi master SQL database (e.g. upon MariaDB or MySQL) and can help strengthen the database backend. As it easy to deal with mattermost-server outages (simply run another instance very quickly), it is mostly painfull to deal with single DB outage.
Galera cluster can be supported in a direct way - add all db nodes to the configuration and use it in balanced way or as a fallback - or can be used via haproxy or similar.

Embed Calender, etc
It would be nice if there would be the possibility to create channels in which you could fix an embed content in the upper area. E.g. a Google calendar which shows the weekly overview or an external service for data storage etc..
Alternatively, a bot that writes the Daily Todos in a channel like slack would be possible: https://get.slack.help/hc/de/articles/206329808-Google-Kalender-f%C3%BCr-Slack
