Option to use the OS window borders
The new mattermost desktop app use a custom window border.
But this does not always meet user expectations, especially under KDE I can freely configure the border. In my case, I have the close button on the left side (like MacOS) and no minimize / maximize buttons.
I know from some apps (e.g. Chrome) that there is an option to use the framework of the OS.

There should a 'Buzz' for alert
There should be a 'Buzz' to alert the other user. Like, Spark, Yahoo.
Sometimes we have messaged to another user. But user is busy on another task. He/She missed the messages which is very important.
In this case, the user should have a 'Buzz' button or shortcut for alert to someone. I hope everyone knows about the importance of 'Buzz'. :)

Allow Tags to be added like Reactions
Since you already plan to add Tags, I would like to propose the ability to add tags like reactions so that people other than the original poster have the ability to tag the post!

Have less subtle new message alerts in the Notification Area
So i have the MatterMost app on Windows. I dislike clutter on my taskbar and having too many windows open, so I have it minimised to a notification area icon most of the time.
The notification area icon looks nice, it's little a white circle inside a circle, and the colour and design matches various other Windows 10 taskbar icons. Very neat and tidy.
However, I think that this aesthetic is not as important as knowing that I have a new message.
Currently when I get a new message and Mattermost is minimised to notification area, a small red dot…

Enable a setting to allow sound alerts on a channel basis
I love that I can get notified when there is a post with a sound. But we have a community channel that a huge number of people belong to where things are discussed that I'm not interested in. I was added to the channel by my boss, and think it would be rude to disconnect. But if I could just turn off the notifications for that channel then I wouldn't be so distracted looking at many many notifications that have nothing to do with me and my work. Thanks for letting us make suggestions to make Matermost even better! Our…

Allow selecting and deleting multiple messages at once
Allow Channel Admins to be able to enter "select" or "edit" mode where checkboxes appear next to the messages.
Admins would be able to select messages one by one or to select a range of messages by clicking the first one, holding Shift button and selecting the last one (like we've used from other software). After selecting multiple messages, Admins would be able to delete them at once, or perform any other action that might be implemented during the development (move, archive, flag, something else).
This feature would make it a lot easier to delete whole bunches of off-topic messages…

Add a keyboard shortcut to jump the the currently open RHS content/message thread.
Often, I will have a long running thread/message-reply chain open, and then a certain channel open for other conversations. It would be great to have a keyboard shortcut to jump to the input for the sidebar, just like there is the equivalent "Focus Input" shortcut (Shift + GUI + L) that jumps to the input for the current channel.
With that, I could easily jump between both places to add new messages without having to switch to my mouse/trackpad.

Using Mattermost as my only chat client.
I like Mattermost client, it's way better than anything else out there.
I want to manage my Facebook messages inside Mattermost client, and I want to connect to an IRC which has nothing to do with my corporation. So I want to mess my private life with work, but I would be very happy about this.
There were trials, for example, libpurple with Pidgin chat client. But Pidgin is like using windows live messenger in 2020.
I know Facebook Messenger has no public protocol for that, so I'm not requesting to implement that, but provide, for example, IRC, libpurple protocols…

Show the connection status instead of just providing an error message
When the client goes offline, which is common when laptops suspend or for corporate implementations where a VPN is required to access the server, the only feedback provided is that the server can't be reached and to get help. This is not only not an appropriate message in this case but the message stays on the screen even after the connection is re-established. Instead of showing a disconnection message I propose replacing it with a connection state indicator. Ideally when the client is offline it will obvious (like changing the color of the window) but I won't be able to…

Allow certificate errors to be permanently ignored
Having bad admins that make errors during the creation of certificates is silly. However, not being able to override their silly mistakes while they fail to address the issue over the course of months is aggravating. Although the issue will be eventually addressed, every time I open up mattermost, I get an invalid certificate error which I have to manually dismiss. I would really like to dismiss this permanently so that I don't have to deal with the extra 3 clicks every time I open up the application.

Make history of last channels with part of last message on CTRL+K window
Make history of last channels with part of last message on CTRL+K window. Because when you have many chat channels, it becomes difficult to navigate between them and remember where was your last important conversation.

Desktop app: Add Change status option to Taskbar tray
In Windows, when you make a right-click on the notification tray icon, it would be nice to add a "Change status" option to switch easily between online, away, or busy.

Search direct messages: Member name suggestions
Currently you have to know and type the exact name when searching in a direct message history of a single person via "in:@name". Whatever you type is even falsely "corrected" to some other channel when there is a match and you hit enter!
That is why I suggest to include member names in the suggestions when typing a name with "in:@...".

Better Upgrade Notification for Old Desktop App
As of now, we do not have a clear warning message to indicate that a desktop client has compatibility issue (old version) with the latest Mattermost Server version.
it will be a good idea to have a message (pop up) that detects the desktop client version and remind them to upgrade it to the latest version if it is at least 1.x version behind the current one.

Include Racially Diverse Emojis
Currently, all of the default emojis (people, hands, etc) on the desktop app have a light yellow skin tone. Since you are already using apple emojis, it would be awesome to integrate the ability to change the skin and hair tone of these emojis.

zoom inside picture
Hello,
I think it could be a really good idea to have the possibility to zoom inside shared picture. Sometimes it's too small, we need to download it and then zoom inside it.thanks

Make emoji replacement a separate option from the rest of post formatting
I consider it unacceptable that I can't choose to disable having my words replaced with emoji, without also having to give up on EVERY SINGLE post formatting feature. I want to be able to use post formatting, just NOT have any emoji appear without me explicitly choosing to insert them.

Don't create duplicate installation on Windows when upgrading (MSI)
After upgrading the Windows desktop client from 4.3.1 to 4.3.2, both installed with the MSI, an entry for both versions exist in add/remove programs.
Two keys are created in the registry.
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall{A44E2D12-7D92-4ABC-8366-35E1CD827C01}
and
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall{C0437176-EF43-4633-A55C-1164B09E8646}
Updating the application, which would normally be a simple process of running the MSI for the latest version with the /qn switch through any systems management system has turned into a scripting exercise. Either the GUID should stay the same or the old version should be automatically removed.
Additionally, removing 4.3.1 after installing 4.3.2 breaks the installation, as the files are installed…
