make threads collapsible
A toggle option so that threads appear as "N comments" and open in the side-panel, so they do not interrupt the main flow of the channel, and you can follow each thread mode easily.
Collapsed Reply Threads is now in General Availability!
Thanks to everyone who has upvoted this feature! With Mattermost version 7.0, Collapsed Reply Threads (our most requested feature ever) is now available for all! System Admins can now enable the feature by default for all users (always_on or default_on).
In addition to more granular configuration, server performance has been improved to support large-scale deployments. Interested in learning more? Check out some of the content below and feel free to reach out with questions or feedback directly in the feature channel:

Just tried it but I was expecting threads to open up in the main list and not in a separate side window.
The expectation was to have the capability to reply to any post even to a reply and view all posts in a dynamic tree.
This is a very old concept existing in any email client or on usenet news.
Please consider migrating the current threads to something like this.

Dear developers,
this is more or less a nice feature, that you have collapsed the threads.
However, there is no indication that a post is a thread with many replies. There should be a good-visible indication that a post has many replies (not only the small icon at the bottom of a thread).
I think about making a post, which has many replies, in another colour and if I click on it, the replies should appear on the right side. Thus, I do not miss messages belonging to a thread post. -

Great! Looking forward to this.

yes, please!

If you do this, PLEASE make it optional! Having threads show in the main channel is one of the main benefits I see of Mattermost over Slack. Otherwise, it becomes much too easy to miss important comments in replies to a post.

PLEASE implement this! This makes Mattermost so difficult to use when compared to your competitors like Slack and Teams. This is ESSENTIAL!

Absolutely agree with the last comment. Having all messages displayed in the main thread is very distracting. Do you have any update on this?

Guy come one!
Without this feature Mattermost is really kind of a mess compared to e.g. Slack.

It seems like it is a duplicate of https://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/19572469-make-threads-collapsible isn't it?

Yes, the thread messages showing up in the main channel without focus are very confusing

Any update on this? Is this going to be implemented soon?

It would be really nice. Threades are useless if anyone sees the messages in the main channel anyway.

This is the biggest thing I miss from Slack. It's so hard to keep track of threads, especially if there are multiple threads going on, the channel becomes a complete mess.

Agree with the others that this is the biggest UX disadvantage that Mattermost has to Slack.
