I've tested this in Mattermost 4.5.0 and it works well. I can create a direct message channel to myself. See https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/PLT-7364

+1 used to use this feature all the time in slack, miss it a lot in MM

My workaround for this I created a user "me." (couldn't create it with just "me" so added the dot) and instruct people to use that user as their private channel to themselves.

In the meantime, I made a private group with myself :) Not quite the same but handy.

Needed to allow incoming hook to post things to self (for review before posting on a public channel for example)
