A notification which has been annoying users has been the App is running in the background notification. It appears whenever some apps run in the background process or overlay on the screen, such as Whatsapp Messenger or Twitter. The principle of the notification is good, but the application of it is not. The notification cannot be removed nor can it be disabled, so you have to put up with it taking up screen space in your notifications.

i have a HTC One M8.
I turned the TPNS on like its decribed in you Docs.
The app has got the standart Notification policy like every other App.
It looks to me that the App isn't using the Android API calls to trigger a Notification.
I'd expect that there is a notification icon in the Status Bar and a Pop Up Overlay with some informations (which channel, what happend) like any other App does it.

Hi Lukas, appreciate your feedback. We need some help reproducing your issue. Could you share the model of your phone and what menu setting you are using to activate the silent mode that still allows apps to make sounds?

This Feature Request is far from Completed.
I activated TPNS an if i get a Message my phone (Android 6.0) beeps, thats all.
Problem is, my phone is in silent mode. Thats a dealbreaker. When iam in a meeting and my phone starts to beep even though it is in silent mode the first thing I do is to delete the App.
When iam not close to my phone in that very moment i miss the notification. And since its not a real notification i don't have the chance to see it when iam coming back.

I know the App is new but as long this issue isn't fixed we can't roll Mattermost out for our group.

also it's a hit and miss if you actually get the notifications....
if the mattermost server sees you as online anywhere it doesn't push a notification, so if you forget to sign out anywhere you no won't get notified.

For many people Android GCM Push Notifications are not an option. For example if the device does not have Google Services. Or if they use the default app from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mattermost.mattermost. Currently when you do not configure PNs you do not get notified, when something is happening in a chat while the app is running in the background.

The same is true for the iOS app ;)
