The story of this very necessary and useful feature has been going on for many, many years. It feels like the developers don't give a damn about user requests. Judging by the deadlines, it feels like some of the developers are actively against it and sabotaging the process! Scenario:
I am managing team of 50 members, and while sending message sometime team member read message and ignore, due to this my followup process taking time.

Give option to system admin as -> Allow messag read -Yes or No
If yes then this feature start working else not

Dear all, yes it will be good for me, if read receipt is available only in direct messages...

but there I think it is just necessary for effective communication: this is not a nice-to-have option. The information, if a message is received/read or not is a first and helpful step after I have sent a message

and please... this has nothing to do with privacy!
mattermost provides much more privacy-sensible user-availability features, such as online/offline status.... so I think it is strange to question this feature because of privacy issues.

So please: just do it.... thank you

Not really needed, you can just leave a reaction on the message if it's important. If the message link to a security docs you leave an :eye: emote as a reaction on the message, and people know you read the doc. Leave a checked reaction to know it's complete. Just knowing if people have focus on the message didnt have any meaning.

In Telegram you can see who read the message in channel.
I think it's good feature, because right now I gotta set reaction on message to let know user who mentioned me that I read it and he doesn't need to repeat it me in DM.
