  1. Add inline preview for attached images

Pasting or attaching an image shows it as a thumbnail rather than inline with the message as it is for image urls

  2. Server facilitated encryption of database contents

This feature proposal is for the ability to encrypt posts/direct messages in the database, with a server-side encryption of the database contents.

  3. Add auto-link functionality, e.g. to create links to bug tracker

It would be really useful if when a message contained text such as "blah blah blah bug 23 blah blah" that the text 'bug 23' was changed into a link to bug 23 in our issue tracker.

This could be handled more generally as a regex replacement that is applied to the message, with the system administrator being able to add multiple such regular expressions. This would allow all kinds of links, e.g. [[wp:Foo]] to link to the Wikipedia article 'Foo'.

The replacement could be applied at the point of save or the point of rendering, but I would recommend…

  4. Allow us to make the window smaller on desktop without collapsing the sidebar.

Sidebar needs to be able to be resizable and we should be able to make the window smaller with the sidebar still showing. There is a lot of empty space.

  5. Keyboard shortcut to close right hand sidebar (RHS) making it easier to close replies

Add a keyboard shortcut to close the right hand sidebar (RHS) making it easier to exit replies and go back to the main channel.

  6. Make emoji reactions visible in pinned post panel(right-hand side)

We'd like to pin a 'poll' post to see the results and make memebers easy to find to post it.

However we have no access to the reactions in the 'pinned post' pane in the right-hand side.

  7. Implement Automatic Right-To-Left (RTL)

Most popular text editors change the text direction automatically to RTL (Rgiht to Left) when you enter a text in RTL languages such as Persian, Arabic or Hebrew. If that was the case in the Mattermost, we (the RTL language speaking people!) could use Mattermost much more productively, and localization to Farsi, Arabic, etc was possible.

  8. Copy/Paste Individual Messages

As it stands now, if I hold down on a message it selects one word, per Android's UI. Fine. However, when I click select all, it selects the entire chatroom, rather than that one message. It would be nice to (similar to Facebook Messenger) simply hold down on the message and have a menu pop up asking if you'd like to copy text. Similarly to another post I've made, perhaps in this pop up message, if there is a phone number or email listed in said message, you could select copy text (whole message), copy phone number, or copy email…

  9. Polls (like doodle or for decision making)

Creating and participating in Polls would be great,
to be embedded within a message.
Like in Doodle, Facebook or Threema:

    Option | User1 | User2 | ...

    Coke | x | |
    Sprite | x | x |
    ...

    OR

    Option | Votes

    Coke | 3/15 Users
    Sprite | 2/15 Users
    ...

  10. Use a different color thread bar for different threads

When there are multiple threads going on in the same channel, all lines are prefixed by a grey vertical bar. The only way to separate the threads is to read the reference message. If the vertical bars had different colors (randomly selected), it would be easy to at a glance see which messages belongs to which threads.

  11. Allow message attachments to generate mentions

    SUMMARY

Notifications are not being generated for user names in message attachments (in my case specifically in fields) that are generated via a webhook.

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Create a new message containing attachments/fields via a web hook. Include the name of the user in the attachment field. The name will not be recognized and tagged.

    EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR

Mattermost would recognize a user's name, as defined in their notification preferences, when mentioned in a message that has an attachment/fields. Notifications would be generated for the user the same as if they are mentioned in a regular message.

  12. Show all threads in one place

Option to show all threads in which a user participates in one place. Ask from Startup School.

Note: By default mention notifications for threads aren't turned on, maybe we should default them to on to see to what extent this helps.

  13. Build Android app without Google Play Services

The Android app requires the Google Play Services because it uses GCM for push notifications. This library is not open-source so it prevents Mattermost from being included in FOSS repositories like F-Droid.
It would be nice to have an option that builds the app without GCM.

  14. Team initials

Ability to change team initials / short name.

For example if your teams start with the same prefix, the initials are going to be the same for all of them.

Furthermore you may want to set it manually, or if the name is made of multiple words, use the first letter of each word as initials.

This is also related to https://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/15465123-team-icon

Idea is to be able to differentiate teams easier :)

I also don't know about mobile apps, but in the web version on desktop the initials could potentially include up to 4 characters.

  16. Create a "New User Approval" process

For accepting new users on a Mattermost system, there is no middle ground between "open system" and "invite only".

We were opening our Mattermost Team edition to interested people, and are now weeding out fake accounts manually. This could be prevented if we had an "approve new user" button for system admins.

Bonus: a configurable login page with custom text would give potential visitors a better idea about wether they should want to join this server. "You are about to sign up for the full-contact deep-sea chess entousiasts chat. Are you sure?"

  17. Mattermost in SharePoint (e.g. iframe)

The last question regard this topic in this forum was not very helpful. Therefore my question: I have in my company mattermost installed. E.g. matter.mycompany.com - Now I would like to integrate mattermost in e.g. via iframe. How can I easly active the iframe option - in General or just for mycompany.com if this is possible? Thanks in advance!

  18. Add a Windows universal app so that Windows 10 Mobile rollouts can use Mattermost

Let's go Windows Universal with this, and bring Mattermost to a whole new market of Windows 10 Mobile users who're waiting for first party apps for apps just like this. Then Mattermost truly becomes a Slack competitor.

  20. Move a message to another channel

Sometimes a user posts his message in the wrong channel. Deleting the message and repost is a simple solution. However, sometimes the message already contains replies. Is it possible (to make) to move a message including its replies to another channel?

    planned  ·  Katie Wiersgalla responded

We are currently looking at bringing the features of the Wrangler plugin into the core product to solve the use cases of:

    1. Moving a message or thread to another channel
    2. Attaching a message to an existing thread

You can follow progress here as we start design soon: https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-35848
