Clickable Phone Number in phone app
In other chat apps, if someone writes a phone number, it turns into a clickable link automatically, so you can easily call someone. In our field, we are constantly giving phone numbers in our chats for field staff who need a call from a supervisor, and this would speed up our processes immensely. Thank you.

Copy/Paste Individual Messages
As it stands now, if I hold down on a message it selects one word, per Android's UI. Fine. However, when I click select all, it selects the entire chatroom, rather than that one message. It would be nice to (similar to Facebook Messenger) simply hold down on the message and have a menu pop up asking if you'd like to copy text. Similarly to another post I've made, perhaps in this pop up message, if there is a phone number or email listed in said message, you could select copy text (whole message), copy phone number, or copy email…

Build Android app without Google Play Services
The Android app requires the Google Play Services because it uses GCM for push notifications. This library is not open-source so it prevents Mattermost from being included in FOSS repositories like F-Droid.
It would be nice to have an option that builds the app without GCM.174 votes -

Support 3rd Party Push Notification Services such as Pushy
Google Play Services and GCM is blocked in China. This means that users that are not on VPN cannot get push notifications. The only known workarounds that I know of are using a 3rd party Push Notification service such as Baidu (http://push.baidu.com/doc/android/api) or Pushy (https://pushy.me/) or to run your own push notification service. I wish I didn't have to make this suggestion, but MatterMost is severely crippled by this and I dont see the geopolitics changing anytime soon.

Android App: Support Gitlab double auth
Actually having a mattermost instance connected to gitlab that use omniauth providers (in my case saml, github and google) is not compatible with the android client.
As it's working on IOS, I suggest that you evolve the android client to make it compatible.
From what I observe, the saml token is being truncated

Add notification replies for wearables
Currently, whenever a mobile notification is received, it displays the message in the notification, but accessing the notification from a wearable (Android Wear, Tizen, Pebble, etc.) only gives the option to show on phone, with no choice to reply to the message from the notification. It would be nice to have notification replies so that people with wearables can respond to messages quickly without needing to pull out their phone.

"Remember me" checkbox when start tne application
It's quite annoying to input username\pass every start. Actually if user clears running applications he has to input username\pass again. I assume it's already had but I couldn't find this functionality.

Mobile: Show "[user] is typing..."
Same as the web client, it's important to see this so messages don't get sent while one person is still finishing their thought.

Closing UI for direct messages in the channel list
Mobile app for Android dose not have close UI of direct message channel in channel list. Browser and Windows client have it.
This feature should be useful when maintaining the channel list if many direct messages are opened.2 votes -
List of Flagged Posts in Mobile Application
It would be a good idea in mobile application to have a button that list of flagged post in channel details. To see a flagged post, it would be very difficult to seek all posts earlier.
Thanks in advance.1 vote -
android notification priority
Android has a notification implementation that supports priority levels. (https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/notifiers/notifications.html). This means that you can define different priorities for the notifcation. lowest means no notification and max is that you get a pop up/in from the top even in full screen apps (like a movie)
Its very disturbing to have that pop in when you are busy with other stuff. especially in the weekend while you are not working (mattermost is in my case work related). If you look at Telegram, you can choose your priority for the notification, or at least this is possible via the settings…

Open/View any type of files within built-in applications
Also we need an ability to open any type of files within built-in mobile applications without the need of previously downloading file. For example: one chat member sends a “.docx” file to the group chat, other members can open this file directly by tapping the link once and choose an application to open it

Support Android's central account system
Every time I start Mattermost, it asks me for url and account info, with no option to save it. Please use Android's Account backend to save login information.

Android: fetch text in background for faster opening from notifications
We use Mattermost (self hosted) in a team of 30 people with about 20 channels.
On my medium performance phone (Xperia Z3) it can take quite a while (~20 seconds) from tapping a notification to showing the actual message, even in ok network conditions (WiFi or 3G+).
In the Desktop App, there's no such lags.I'd guess that by having the App run a background service which already fetches the text data for the channel triggering the notification could considerably speed up this use case.

Optimize notification content
The title row could be utilized for the notification originator instead of always saying "Mattermost" taking space without adding value. The icon already tells you which app it's coming from. Also the content shows Markdown, emoji and escaping raw, also on Windows desktop.

Reply arrow on phone
The reply arrow that is seen when hovering over a message on the desktop app is not available on the phone apps until you hit the "...". Is it possible to have both the ... and reply arrow visible on the phone app as well? Thanks!

Don't play the notifiaction sound if your phone is muted
The android app is playing sound, when receiving notifications, even if my phone is on vibration. Probably due to the webview used.

Support for older Android version - starting from 4.0+
Android 4.4 is to high requirement. Slack app support also older Android versions, why Mattermost can't? 4.0+ would be reasonable.
