Wow, this an old issue for something that seems like basic functionality. I had to turn it off (on a Mac) because it's too jarring and is easily conflated with system notifications. Now I miss messages.

Does anyone have a workaround?

+1 here for allowing the mobile apps to set a custom sound!

This is my one single complaint in Mattermost. The DING DING DING. Fortunately with the Electron app I can mix it down a little in Windows, but a less annoying chime would be a most welcome addition to an already excellent tool.

I want to keep it on, but I want to have a choice between different sounds. After X time, the sound becomes background noise and is less 'HEY NOTIFICATION' and more 'Did I just hear something?'.

I'm also on the desktop version and this is a systems sound on Windows. I am unsure if there is a network issue or if I am getting a new message.

This should apply to the desktop version as well. The tri-tone sound is jarring, outdated, and downright awful. I have to choose between being annoyed every time someone sends me a message, or risk not noticing that people are messaging me.

Custom sounds for each mention type and/or channel would be ideal. So that I can tell the difference between a general @channel mention in a group that doesn't require my urgent attention vs. a direct message that would.

Why can't we choose our own sounds like in other apps?

Please apply this to Android as well. Here are my votes.

The notification sound for iOS apps defaults to Tri-tone if the app doesn't specify something else (also, Tri-tone cannot be changed). It would be nice if the iOS app offered a choice of notification sounds, or at least used the greater Mattermost platform's notification sound.
