Change notification sound
Nobody likes it.
Tested on 4 people, everybody wanted to turn it off ASAP.
In Mattermost v5.28 and later, users can select from 6 different notification sounds in Account Settings > Notifications > Desktop Notifications. Mattermost desktop users will also need to upgrade to v4.6 and later: https://mattermost.com/download/#mattermostApps

On Mattermost MacOS app 4.6.2 I can't still change the notification sound. What am I missing?

There are now sound options in notifications in version 4.6.1. I'm glad I can change it from the default system sound. It's much easier to distinguish what I'm getting pinged for now. It would be nice to be able to use my own custom sounds though.

I would really like to be able to choose my own sound

Our company just switched to Mattermost.
I can't hear the sound most of the time. It just doesn't work.
Not being able to change the sound is literally a joke. -

Wow - more than 4 years and it is still not possible to change the sound???

Would also appreciate the ability to change the notification sound. Away from the gawdawful TriTone on iOS and macOS.

So... maybe I've missed this discussion elsewhere, but why is "change notification sound" a matter of "here's some other sounds we'll bake in" rather than "here's a file dialog so you can choose your own notification sounds that work for you"?
I only ask because I already have trouble hearing the default sound, and the ones in that design document are also difficult for me to hear

not being able to choose a sounds is a massive feature gap for chat, and soooo surprising
the default sound is jarring
need options--please? -

Why not let us choose our own sound?

I'd love to see that feature in!

It seems like you solved this back in June last year, has it been merged? I can't find the option.

The alert noise is deafening, especially during work conference calls. Please choose something softer on the ears.

Hi Team,
I have some applications on my computer that runs Windows default notification which annoys me and other staff.
I have decided to turn off my windows notification sounds and so far using Slack on my side which was working fine.
we are looking to move over to Mattermost, and now, we found that mattermost is using windows default notification. This won't work.
Please make this feature available as soon as possible, this is highly required for us in order to make Mattermost work in my enviornment.
We will be looking forward to have customized sound settings on mattermost.
Thanks and regards

To update on this: We have a design ticket in progress here https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-467.
If anyone has feedback, please feel free to comment on the ticket or the spec linked in the comments.

At least give some choices that are very different sounding so folks can decide themselves. Everyone will have different needs, the only real solution here is providing choice.

This seems to be an old thread but can this be build in to desktop and mobile versions. The current default sounds are awefull!

Here https://docs.mattermost.com/help/getting-started/configuring-notifications.html it says: Configure desktop notification triggers and sounds in Account Settings > Notifications > Desktop Notifications.
But under Account Settings > Notifications I didn't find "Desktop Notifications" on latest Windows version.
On Android 9, it doesn't make any sound neither push notification although access granted and set to show also when online.

It would be nice if you could set custom sounds per room as well
