Just wanted to add my support for the commenter from 2018. Adding a setting for this at the user level completely missed the point. The issue is that joining a channel spams all members of the channel. I can't imagine how this is useful on a public channel. Nobody cares when someone joins or leaves a public channel and our user's don't want to receive these spam messages. For channels with large followings but infrequent content, there's often more spam of people joining/leaving than there is actual content. Giving each user a "turn off spam" setting is hardly a solution. Let admins turn it off for everyone.

Setting this at the user level does not meet the request.
The request is specifically for admins to be able to control whether join/leave messages are displayed either universally or per channel (preferred). Asking each user to go to their settings and turn off these messages is unrealistic. As I understand it, these controls exist in the E10 version which means it is not unrealistic to expect it would be fairly straightforward to add this specific feature to the team edition.
