make threads collapsible
A toggle option so that threads appear as "N comments" and open in the side-panel, so they do not interrupt the main flow of the channel, and you can follow each thread mode easily.
Collapsed Reply Threads is now in General Availability!
Thanks to everyone who has upvoted this feature! With Mattermost version 7.0, Collapsed Reply Threads (our most requested feature ever) is now available for all! System Admins can now enable the feature by default for all users (always_on or default_on).
In addition to more granular configuration, server performance has been improved to support large-scale deployments. Interested in learning more? Check out some of the content below and feel free to reach out with questions or feedback directly in the feature channel:

Add setting for slack-like treads: messages only in thread, not main channel.

Please, collapsable threads! By far the biggest detriment to MM vs Slack

Without collapsable threads, I will not be able to convince my colleagues of using Mattermost, I'm afraid. Thus, please implememt the feature soon!

Could you please host another update meeting on this feature?
I would love to see this feature in production, because following conversations are currently pretty difficult. Without the obvious collapsible thread, there are people in my organization who simply comment in the main flow. This behavior results in losing track of conversations, making Mattermost a complete mess of comments. Especially now where this is the primary of flow of org comms. Please, please... -

It is incredibly difficult to follow discussions with the current organization. Please add threading to ease this burden on so many people and ultimately increase the adoption rate of your system! Thank you

We need more threading. Now that more people work remote, it is hard to keep up with all the chatter when it's not all kept under the same thread in the way that Slack does theirs. Please thread! Thank you.

Please add threading! It is so hard to read and follow multiple conversations without it.

This should have been possible for a long time. My employer uses Slack instead of Mattermost in because of this. Many projects would switch to Mattermost with this feature !
Threads are the opportunity to join a conversation, get notified about it, and keep talking without annoying others at first. They are also a way to react to an older message without interrupting the actuel conversation.
Please make it real !!

The most recent comment in the pre-release Mattermost[1] on 21 August 2019 was:
We are planning on giving this design heavy focus in Q4.

Tried to discern the results of the community design meeting about this feature request. It's not clear where this stands. When is this getting done?!?

This is confusing and looks disorganized. I have to read entire threads to be sure I'm not missing non-threaded content. Please collapse threads!

As a former Slack user this would make managing multiple conversations amongst our team MUCH easier!

it's not even the scrolling that's the worst part. it's the fact that in a single channel you can't have multiple conversations because everything is put into the channel and isn't contained to the conversation (or thread) that it applies to.
you already have the functionality to display threads just stop posting it directly into the channel and make that optional not unchangeable-default
