make threads collapsible
A toggle option so that threads appear as "N comments" and open in the side-panel, so they do not interrupt the main flow of the channel, and you can follow each thread mode easily.
Collapsed Reply Threads is now in General Availability!
Thanks to everyone who has upvoted this feature! With Mattermost version 7.0, Collapsed Reply Threads (our most requested feature ever) is now available for all! System Admins can now enable the feature by default for all users (always_on or default_on).
In addition to more granular configuration, server performance has been improved to support large-scale deployments. Interested in learning more? Check out some of the content below and feel free to reach out with questions or feedback directly in the feature channel:

So what was the result of said meeting?

Agreed with the below. MM is useless without this feature. It's just like being on a long annoying reply-all email chain.

This is super important - agree with all of the previous commenters. Are there any updates on this issue?

Without the function that stops to show all answers complete in a thread, MM is complete useless.

My organization has changed from Slack to Mattermost but to be honest showing every comment in the channel makes it somewhat unusable for me.
This issue should be priority number one in my opinion.

Please please try to push this through! It's quite noisy to have to conversations go back and forth for pages, losing important content in the process. Our team could really benefit from this feature!

I'm thinking about this a bit more further. I would like to have a 'conversational view' at the middle panel (postList), where you will see:
- New messages as topics. This is the threads collapsed/hidden.
- Always show the reply button with the count, even when zero.
- Click the post content (post header or post message), would do the same as reply button today (open the tread view, rhs).
- The most resent topic at the top (sort order by activity).
- Scroll down for older topicsThis could even be a separate view if the current view is 'Messages/Chats' the thread/topic view could be 'Conversations' or something.

This would be as simple as adding the CSS rule .post--comment { display:none }, which you can already do in browser

This would be the best improvement since sliced bread. Any updates here?

Very desirable feature. We have complex threaded conversations.

It is interesting - https://www.mattermost.org/mattermost-2-2-threaded-messages-and-more/
I may be wrong but the screenshot looks like there WAS a collapsed threaded messages functionality 2-3 years ago...
Am I missing something?

We're used to discussing every idea in separate threads in Slack, now we're trying to move into Mattermost and all our channels are a huge mess where you can't recognize who's answering whom and where all the discussions are going on.
It's a HUGE drawback of Mattermost, it's only two hours since we're using it, but I already starting to hate this messenger.
Can't believe it's a year since this proposal and it's not implemented yet. People like me would easily abandon the app just for that.

My team also wants this. It would be helpful if we have 2 separate investigations we are working on today. Tomorrow we will close out those investigations and move on to new ones. It is hard to keep track of what comment is for what investigation. It will get messy if we keep having to create new channels for this.
It would be nice if it would highlight a conversation with unread comments.
