This is the one feature we thought wasn't going to be critical but ended up in hours of custom API work. The community is now relying on 3rd-party solutions that require several hoops to jump through.

We would also be very interested in this feature before moving from Slack to Mattermost.

Being able to pump email notifications into Mattermost would be incredibly helpful. Not ever application has webhook support and instead of standing up a middle man server to handle that exchange, being able to automatically forward emails into a channel would be amazing.

Receive server notification via email
Forward email to channelstring@servername.com or whatever.

At the minimum, include the subject and body in plain text
Ideally, support rich text & images.

Would this feature enable employees in a different department (within a large organization that still relies on email for communication) to communicate with employees in a different department using Mattermost? Or is this feature intended strictly for emails from outside an organization to reach an employee's Mattermost account for interaction?

Since one of the best arguments for mattermost is that it can replace the very outdated email workflows, this feature is the most important for us.

Nearly every application in our intranet supports email notifications or similar. Using a feature like that would help a lot in mattermost adoption.

In case we need to wait for all these intranet applications to support mattermost, this would effectively take years. As a first step a very simple one-way email-to-mattermost out of the box experience would already be sufficient

this would be awesome and really usefull!

This is our #1 request on making Mattermost more useful!

This is a valuable use case. Any update from the Mattermost team on status of this suggestion? Mattermail seem to be working but it would be nice to know that Mattermost will future proof the feature.
