Introducing Voice Calling and Screen Sharing in Channels!
Thanks to everyone who has upvoted this feature. We're excited to announce voice calling and screen sharing is available in beta with Mattermost v7.0. Whether it's a quick call for when something is easier to talk through than type out, recurring office hours, a timely screen share to demo something, or a several day war room discussion to fix a critical issue - there's tons great use cases for voice calls in Mattermost that don't require leaving the ecosystem.
Interested in trying it out? You'll need to upgrade to Mattermost v7.0 and as a beta feature, it must be enabled by your server's System Administrator. You can learn more in our release blog, and can direct any feedback or questions to feature channel.

This does seem somewhat like feature creep, and orthogonal to the aim of the project. I am worried that this ticket is taking time and resources away from more important items.
If I could add a negative vote for it, I would.

We tested meet.jit.si, and it worked great. We are switching from Skype to Mattermost for our team communication and we are interested in contributing this feature. Where should we add our proposal (when ready): here or to JIRA?

Can this be marked as a duplicate of https://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/10625343-video-audio-conference-feature or closed or something ? It seems to be the same feature and have the same feedback and even roughly the same votes as the other (withdrawing mine now) and it seems to just be a distraction. The place to track this seems to be the other request.

we would love to switch to mattermost but without group calls and screen sharing thats impossible. :(

To me this is a must have as it would allow to seamlessly switch to voice and screen sharing when this is required. This would encourage teams to talk and increase productivity.

Though I would like to call for 'voice call' (no video) to be an option for any RTC implementation.

Add a WebRTC (voice) call option to chats. Add a button to the UI that can trigger a Web RTC call, and invite all other users in the channel or DM to the call.

I echo marle's statements. The sad fact is, for a lot of us, trying to get an entire company with multiple locations to move to a different internal communications solution is next to impossible if audio and video is not included. At this point, I wouldn't even consider developing an alternative communication tool if the intention was text only.

This feature is the #1 thing preventing Mattermost from replacing Skype in our office -- we'd love to have its other features and superior chat and sharing, but management cares more about video and calls than chat.
