Allow different rooms to pop out of the main window in the fat client.
I would like to view multiple rooms in separate windows.

This feature would also help with the use of multiple desktops in windows.
Now, if you have Mattermost open on desktop 1, but work on desktop 2 and would like to use Mattermost (open via taskbar) windows switches the desktop. That is very annoying for me. -

Can't believe this is not implemented yet.
Microsoft teams does this. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/open-an-app-in-a-new-window-in-microsoft-teams-43829b9a-f4ae-4971-ad85-f0e8a00df3c1
Slack does this. https://slack.com/help/articles/4403608802963-Open-separate-windows-in-Slack
No way am I going to get people on windows to migrate away from xmpp/pidgen to this.
Seems like a huge roadblock to multitasking when you are confined to one single window at a time.
It makes no sense why you cannot open a second application instance either, for instance, boards is something that would be beneficial to open in it's own window and not just in another tab that then takes your view away from your chats.

ICQ had this feature in 1996.

I would like to view multiple *channels in separate *tabs. We have a single server with multiple teams and some teams have hundreds of channels. The tabs used exclusively for servers is a mostly useless (unused) feature in my case.

This would be hugely useful. Active users often have many channels that they're following, and ability to passively interact / follow a conversation easily without having to switch / Ctrl+K all the time just to read updates would be very helpful.

This would be a really useful addition as I usually have multiple conversions going on simultaneously discussing the various different projects on-going within my team

this is a feature that I'm looking forward from a while. It's really annoying to jump between different channels if you're chatting in more than one channel at the same time (and this is quite common in my work!)
Also skype re-introduced this kind of feature in one of the latest release for W10: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34880/how-do-i-use-split-window-view-in-skype
