Uploaded mp4 video files should display with the play controls and preview frame
ummary: Uploaded mp4 video files should display with the play controls and preview frame directly inside the channel for recognizability and immediate playback.
Description: Just as image files received an image preview feature with 4.7 I would like to suggest the same behavior for mp4 video files. Currently there is only an icon and file information in the channel. With a lot of videos uploaded to a channel it becomes hard to distinguish the files.
Also, adding the video play controls below would make it faster to browse through videos.
Could this be implemented using the html5 <video> tag with preload=“none”?
We post alot of small videos and we've relied upon this feature in Slack and we sorely miss it in Mattermost
Thank you for your time.

This preview allows users to assess the relevance and appropriateness of the video before deciding to play it, saving time and helping them avoid potentially unwanted or irrelevant content. So, we need this feature.

The suggestion is to display play controls and preview frames directly in the channel for uploaded mp4 video files to make them more recognizable and enable immediate playback. The implementation can use the html5 <video> tag with preload=“none”. This feature is currently available in Slack and missed in Mattermost for browsing through small videos.

It's difficult to believe this request has been around nearly 5 YEARS. It's not a difficult implementation, and would do a lot to improve the overall MM user experience.
