Away Status Configuration
Just to expand on the original idea located here:
https://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/17128663-configurable-away-time
Auto-away should at least be configurable in terms of minutes, or an option should exist to disable it completely. These settings should exist per user, but I'm not sure how much value it would add if the administrator determines the configuration for the team.

Ping. Disabling auto-away is critical for privacy.

Mattermost web care team, advised me to open a ticket here, for this feature request.

Folks this has been open for 4 years and is actually a small thing. Especially if you also work with the webapp, this is actually a must. Just as when I'm away on the desktop, I may still be online via mobile app.

Why is this not a thing!!

Do you guys know, if there is an option to disable the 'auto' part to manual at least?

It's absolutely crazy that this hasn't been accomplished yet. 5min away from mattermost is 'away' by default with no other options? For shame.

This can't be so difficult to implement and it's been suggested to implement in 2016! Guys - do it! Seriously - every messenger or chat has this functionality!

Any word on this??? Is this configurable?! HOW!?

It's not only a "feature"! It is a MUST when you are doing something like this! I can't believe this option doesn't exist - very unprofessional!

I have a 32 inch or so monitor. Although I leave the Mattermost client up off to the side, I still get set to away by the auto-away setting because Mattermost doesn't have focus. This has lead to some confusion when people in other offices don't think I'm at my desk even though I am. I have adjusted the away timeout, but that's a horrible kludge. Auto-away should be able to be disabled or should actually identify activity on a computer, not just focus on the app.

I agree. Make it customizable or allow disabling auto-status as a whole.

5 minutes is way too little, and apparently the system does not detect activity if MatterMost does not have focus.

I miss a custom status/away message to say where I am or what I'm doing. E.g. commuting, home office, @customer X, etc. The competition unfortunately has a feature like this. It should be visible either (slack-like) next to the user with an icon or when you click on a user see that he/she is online/away/dnd/etc and why (the custom message).

Options to show active or away would be nice. The timer is too short. Or an option to show "in a meeting" or "traveling", etc. to allow your co-workers to know you are not available.

My concern with it being 5 minutes is that it's too soon---I may be in a patient chart for 15 minutes and it now shows me as away, even though I'm right at my desk. I am concerned that my colleagues would not message me if the away symbol is up. I am in favor of the auto-away should be done away with or at least the time away from MM should be increased to an hour. It would be unlikely that I would be away from MM and in other programs for an entire hour without checking in.
