   We’ve opened a design ticket to start exploring this feature: https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-36529

   This will need feasibility explorations given performance concerns on the server-side. As a result, we may start by only offering read receipts in Direct Messages and Group Messages that have a maximum of 8 users.

   any update on this? why are you guys making users beg for a standard feature which is available in all your competitors?

   Please add the functionality to show read receipts which should make it possible to see who read each message. Most of your alternate solutions already have this functionality.

   E.g rocket chat has:

   By activating `Show Read Receipts` users will see who reads each message and by activating `Detailed Read Receipts` they will see when users read each message.

   This idea has been requested since 2016 and it's a pity no one even assigned it.
