Allow email batching / limiting
If a user is offline when they are sent @mentions or direct messages, they are given 1 email per message, with no restrictions.
If we could instead have a delay to gather several chat messages at once, it would reduce the amount of "spam" that is sent to the user.
An alternative would be to only email the user on the first mention/direct message they receive per channel.

only show the number of mentions in the red circle over the channel menu button
the red circle with a number in it gives the impression that i have missed important chats. it would be more useful in my opinion if the number represented the number of unread mentions and personal messages instead.

Android App: System Notifications
The Android App works great. It would be great if the app could create Android system notifications.
Otherwise you have to open the app to see if there are new notifications (or leave the email notifications enabled).Thank you for this great tool!

Provide option to authenticate using a SAML based iDP
Many organizations are using SAML iDP's, like SecureAuth, PingFederate and Okta, to manage authentication of their users. The ability to allow organizations to select this authentication option would make this more appealing.
3 votesThanks Nicholas, SAML authentication is shipping in v3.2 to be released July 16 as part of Enterprise Edition.

Make it easier to direct message users from channel
When reading a channel, it's sometimes desirable to direct message a user after reading a message they posted. Right now you have to either find their name on the message list or use the upcoming /msg command. There seems to be a missed opportunity for messaging them from their username though. Clicking on their name opens a popover, but you can't actually send a message from it. I'd propose either double clicking their name opens a DM or putting a link to open a DM in the popover. I can implement this, just want to ask for guidance from a…

Remove the toolbar when sending message (the "Done" button is not necessary)
When writing a message you have a "done" button next to the input field.
Clicking that closes the keyboard.I would rather see that it sends the message (stolen from other apps such as message, slack, whatsapp and many more)

Add option to bounce icon in OS X dock for notification, in addition to or instead of the current notification system.
There should be a setting allowing the user to specify that they want the mattermost dock icon to bounce upon a notification. It should remain bouncing until the application is brought to the front again by the user.
Ideally, they could also choose to have it only bounce on mentions.

Javascript Driver
Add a Javascript driver so 3rd party web apps can have full access to APIs and build rich integrations.
Example: An extension could be created to allow Mattermost to be incorporated into other websites to offer live messaging outside of the Mattermost web client: https://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/8810731-implement-a-site-chat-feature

Caching old messages in mobile App? (like slack, whatsapp etc...)
When starting the iOS App 2.0, the app is syncing its data. This usually takes quite a while. Another thing is, that when the device is "offline" (e.g. flightmode), I'm not able to read my already received messages on my mobile app. When Offline and the app gets started, It looks like there is no time out set, when no internet connection (circle keeps spinning since minutes). Could you cache the the data and just sync "new" messages? I just checked slack app and they offer this, which is quite helpful.
https://github.com/mattermost/ios/issues/1453 votesThis feature is complete in the native apps and cache can be reset via Settings > Advanced Settings

Jump to conversation
It would be great to have something like slack, when you hit STRG + K.
Slack brings up "Jump to conversation, which essentially is a quick dial for private chats or for channels. Here is an example:

When the team URL can't be loaded during app startup, automatically reload every 30 seconds
When I start up my laptop and I'm travelling, I initially don't have internet access. After it starts up I connect it via Bluetooth. I usually forget that (unlike Slack), if Mattermost didn't successfully load the page when it started, then it just sits there waiting for manual intervention to reload the page.
Instead, if the page can't be loaded (the "Failed to load the URL" page), Mattermost desktop should automatically reload the page every 30 seconds until it loads successfully.

Auto focus cursor to input box on typing or window focus
This was partially implemented in v1.2 but it doesn't go all the way. I think that focus should default to the input box when you begin typing, and when the window regains focus

Add the user online status to the direct messages / Channel-member "user manager"
When a user wants to know the online status of a user, the user needs to klick "more" in the direct message area and the "message" button on the pop-up, so the online status will show up.
It would be quite handy, if the (chosen) online status will show in this "user-pick dialog". This would be usefull for the channel-member-overview as well.15 votesThis feature is complete and shipped with v3.9.0 on May 16th.

See who's online in a channel
It should be possible to see who's online in a channel. At the moment all you're able to see is a list of all users that are part of the channel, though in order to see who's online you need to create private channels.

compact message theme
Slack allows to have two different message themes. The first is called clean and it is what mattermost has right now. It displays the icon and the username on one line and the text goes onto the next line:
[XX] username time
[XX] <text goes here>Then there is the compact mode which basically removes the user icon and puts everything else onto one line:
time username: <text goes here>
Currently we have hacked some css to make that work, but I think that would be a useful addition in general.
