Add @all mention as a mention as a configurable option.
A recent release of Mattermost removed the funtion that @all notifies everyone in the team.
Would it be possible to return this feature to the 'Notification Settings' as a possibility, but disabled by default?
The current workaround is to add
@all
as a keyword to trigger2 votesThanks for the suggestion and upvotes! (at)-all mention added as an option for notification settings with v3.1.

Enable signup for users with email address from long TLDs
People with valid email addresses at sites with long top-level domains (ex. user@papalote.online) are being told to "Please enter a valid email address" at signup. More and more people are using non-traditional TLDs. They should not be blocked from signing in.

Make commenting a one-click easy action
Commenting on a post right now is a (relatively) arduous process--I have to go to the side of the post, click the "..." icon, and then click reply. Once that's been done once on a post, the comment box shows up, but it's still way off to the side and a pain to get to. Because of this, pretty much no one uses the comment features, which causes the channels to get very cluttered without organization.
The far easier and more intuitive way would be to click on a post and get the option to reply to the post right…
8 votesA “reply” icon has been added to make it easier to reply. if you still feel this is an issue we welcome new feature suggestions on ideas to fix it?

Auto-notify users when replying to post
When replying to a post, we currently have to tag the user for them to get a notification. It seems like replies should trigger a notification automatically - even better, make it a setting we can turn on or off (although I can't imagine why someone would want it off).
3 votesA setting for this is here: https://docs.mattermost.com/help/settings/account-settings.html#reply-notifications.

Emoji Picker
Hi all,
I see mattermost supports Emoji. It would be nice to have an Emoji picker, or at least auto complete when typing ":"
Cheers!
19 votesEmoji auto-complete added as of Mattermost v1.3, thanks for sharing the idea!!

Allow opening up a team so people can join without invites
In open source projects (like those run by Wikimedia!) it is important that everyone be able to join openly without needing an explicit invite. Having some support for this would be great and also definitely help stem some of the flow from IRC to Slack, redirecting it to mattermost instead.
19 votesThere is a setting for this under Team Settings → General → Allow anyone to sign-up from login page in Mattermost v1.2 and up.
Setting it to “yes” will add a sign up link to the login page, so anyone is able to create an account.

Utilize full witdth of screen for chat
The chat wastes a lot of screen space on devices with a large screen.
See https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/2156866/11251371/ec9e246e-8dfe-11e5-9a7a-912eefde4318.png for example.
The chat should use the full width.3 votes -
Add a search filter to the "More Channels" list
It might be very inconvenient to search through every channels name/description manually. A text search on this fields to find a channel will do the job.

Filter usernames in direct messages list
When there is a lot of usernames, it's complicated to find one to send him a direct message.
It will be helpfull to have a filter field under de "direct messages" menu, to filter the usernames list.

add latex support
For any deployment in a math-using organization or a research group, latex support is a killer feature. To the best of my knowledge, no native support exists in the competitor tools, and Slack has a rather cumbersome "translator bot" https://github.com/colbygk/mathslax. On the other hand, combining mathjax or katex with marked seems relatively common (e.g. https://github.com/ForbesLindesay/supermarked).

Auto focus cursor to message typing
when switching a channel or private group or individual, it would be nice if the cursor focus is defaulted to "Write a message" text box.

Clicking on a search result should bring up the conversation history around that search result
When searching, and search results are found of a conversation, it would be good that clicking that search result brings up the context of that conversation so that the user can easily see what was discussed before and after what was found by search.
3 votesThe ability to “Jump” to a search result and view the conversation around is included starting in v1.3.

Detect and parse 3rd party links like twitter, youtube etc.
We would like to see 3rd party links parsed, so a youtube link would provide a preview, a twitter link would show the tweet, an image posted from dropbox would provide a preview image.

XMPP support
Support XMPP protocol, or at least a small subset of it.
This will allow for the following:
1) being able to use tested mobile applications while waiting for the development of a dedicated one2) the possibility of encrypted end-to-end conversations using OTP
Incidentally, there is a mobile client called SecureChat that covers both cases and runs in iOS and Android :-)
File sharing in a channel would be lost though, but recovering a file posted by someone else would be as easy as sending a message to the XMPP client containing a link to the file to be downloaded…

Change favicon for new notifications
There is currently support for new notifications via the Notifications API. However, once this notification disappears there are no indications that anything has changed. It would be helpful to change the favicon to indicate when a new, unread message/post has been received. This feature is found in Slack/WhatsApp/Messager currently work.
3 votesThe favicon should change to red, and a the browser tab shows a * to indicate unread messages and a number in brackets to indicate mentions. (Added in v1.2.1)

provide a native Go binary
For the convenience of not having to resort to docker in environments where nginx / postgresql / node.js may already be running or deploying docker is not an option.
Ideally, all platforms officially supported by Go but Linux & Mac OS X would be good to start2 votesEach month on the 16th binaries of the latest stable release for Linux are available from http://www.mattermost.org/download/, there are an array of install guides available as well: http://www.mattermost.org/installation/
While Mac OS X is not currently supported, binaries are, so we’re marking this ticket complete and would ask your help adding a new ticket for Mac OS X binaries if you feel it’s priority?
