Horizontal scaling for large enterprise deployments
For use in very large enterprise deployments exceeding the capacity of a single Mattermost server and needing high availability and set up of redundant proxies, databases and application servers.

Autocomplete usernames based on both username and fullname
We've recently switched from Slack to Mattermost and one thing I noticed is that the Slack autocomplete of (user) names is a lot more lenient. It seems that Slack autocompletes both on username as well as full name.
20 votesThank you Pascal for nominating the feature! The improvement has been added for v3.2.
Would you be open to retweeting the announcement (http://bit.ly/2aALXfc) or sharing some positive words on the blog post announcement (http://bit.ly/29RJ6hn)?

Add IAM Role support for S3 authentication on AWS servers
I'm deploying Mattermost on AWS using IAM Roles to provide temporary credentials to the instances. I was hoping it would work out of the box and, when it didn't, I created a script to retrieve the temporary credentials periodically and update the Mattermost config.json with the credentials so it can store files in S3. However, the config only supports AccessKeyId and SecretAccessKey. The temporary credentials require the inclusion of a Session Token as well.
I see two possible solutions to this:
The simple solution would be to add an optional AmazonS3SessionToken configuration option in the FileSettings and update the authentication…
21 votesMattermost v4.9 and later now supports AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles for Amazon S3 file storage.
Thanks everyone for voting this feature!

Ability to run Mattermost on Windows Server
- Producing a version of Mattermost that runs on Windows Server
- Providing install guide for Windows Server
- Fixing issues with config.json not rendering in Notepad
- Offering .zip download for Windows rather than tar
60 votesHuge thanks to Jared Shields for drafting the production install guide for Window Server and helping make the Windows version straight forward to install: https://docs.mattermost.com/install/prod-windows-2012.html
Several changes were needed, such as making config.json readable in Notepad, changing from tar file to .zip which Windows can open natively without installing 3rd party decompression apps.
We’ve updated the original request to make this about having the ability to run Mattermost on Windows Server, which is about providing a Windows binary with each release, which enables a sort of “Mattermost Windows Server User Group” to become available, providing peer-to-peer support for Windows releases.
Mattermost on Windows Server is available. It’s less mature than Linux right now and as it grows in popularity, we need to be clear to the community on status of vetting and support.
Specifically:
1. Need a meta-ticket to update Mattermost documentation to distinguish between multiple binaries
Software and Hardware…

Win7 x64 desktop: Allow multi-select in file upload dialog
Web interface supports multi-select in file upload dialog. Propose Windows app allows multi-select as well, right now only supports single-select.

Support high availability
It would be great if the Mattermost server was highly available, so that a server going down did not impact availability. I believe this can be done by using Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY to broadcast messages to clients connected to other servers.

mentions should be configurable not only for first name but also for last name and a combination of both
Within the notification settings, a user can choose to set his own mention triggers to "Your case sensitive first name "John"". It would be even more reasonable to trigger to a last name (because it's more unique then a prename). Furthermore case sensitivity should be an general, additional and optional selective checkbox for any of these settings.
1 voteThis is now available with “Other non-case sensitive words, separated by commas.” setting under Account Settings > Notifications > Words that trigger mentions.

Add a vertical scroll bar in the conversation window
There is no vertical scroll bar in the chat window which makes it very hard to accurately drag and scroll back up the conversation, or even get an idea how long the conversation is. It always looks like it;s only just started.
1 voteThanks for the feedback! Vertical scroll bar should be available in Mattermost 2.1.

Command shortcut for messaging a user (/msg)
In IRC you can type
/msg username
or/msg username foo
to open a chat with a user and send them a message (everything after their username). This would be very useful to quickly switch to a conversation with a user. After typing/msg
, an autocomplete list of users pops up, and then you can optionally add a message. I've already built this, would you be interested in this making it upstream?7 votesThis feature has been completed and was shipped with v3.4.

Add search filter for usernames in Add Members to channel list
When adding members to a channel there is no "Search members" filter on the user list. It would be nice to use the same filter that is used in the direct message list.
Here is a similar feature request that was related to the filtering in direct message list:

List teams of user in mattermost home page
Since there is a
Find my teams
in home page, so how about go one step further, just list my teams here?So the user no need to remember all of his teams and it's quite easy to find his team.
If we have this feature implemented, then the "Team Directory" could be changed to "Public Teams" means everyone can join in.
So that "Team Directory"(in fact maybe restricted teams) doesn't take the small valued home page because most of mattermost users are can not join into the team.
After that, in the mattermost home page, there are two kinds…

Change max length of username so that full names can be used, Add Capital letters
Change max length of username so that full names can be used. As described in https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/1380 . usernames should be able follow enterprise rules. Ours is, e.g. name.lastname, or easier to read as Name.Lastname . Nicknames are not as good as well.
5 votesMax length of usernames was increased in v2.0.0: https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/PLT-1797

Prompt to invite a user to a channel when you mention them
In Slack, when you mention a user within a channel but they are not part of that channel, Slack alerts you to this and asks if you would like to invite that user to the channel - this would be an incredibly useful feature in Mattermost.
5 votesThis is currently on master and will be in the 2.0 release (February, 16th)

Hide preview
Having the ability to preview (for example) inline .gifs is amazing. But they can also be distracting at times. Having the ability to hide preview would be great.

Pinned posts
It'd be great to be able to pin a post within a channel (although maybe only the channel owner?). I used the description of a channel to include an overview and a list of links to helpful resources, but the channel description only shows one line of text next to the title until you hover over it, which isn't the most intuitive.
