  2. CMD/CTRL+K should use fuzzy find methodology

When you are using cmd+k to find a channel or person, it would be nice if it used a fuzzy find searching mechanism.

    Example:
    trying to find person a.lastName
searching: "alast" doesn't find anything currently since it requires you search "a.last"

  3. Miniature (icon) Mugshot in leftmost Direct Messages pane, shown before name

In the “Direct Messages” leftmost pane show a miniature mugshot, in addition to the persons name shown. The same mugshot /image as shown in message conversation list view.

Sometimes the name is not know or remembered, but the face is not easily forgotten (unless your blind) and might be recognized, when initiating a conversation.

My list contain about 100 developers, many with similarly sounding names and it would ease when trying to find the right developer.

When having many contacts often the names becomes very similar i.e John A Smith, John B Smith, John C Smith.

    Which of those is…

  4. Add support for Mattermost Custom URL scheme on macOS

    Hello,

MacOS recently added support for custom URL schemes which allows other apps and browsers to open permalinks to content in the native app (rather than in the browser).

The use case would be that when you get an email to a Mattermost permalink, and you click on it in Safari, it'll open in the Mattermost app rather than a new tab in Safari.

The instructions to adopt custom URL schemes can be found here:

    https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/core_app/allowing_apps_and_websites_to_link_to_your_content/defining_a_custom_url_scheme_for_your_app

Thanks a lot for a great product!

  5. Add an option to hide the menu bar

In the desktop client, it could be useful to have an option to hide the menu bar by default (Signal desktop has this, also an Electron-based app), since it's not used that much in day-to-day usage. It could appear when pressing alt (Signal does this, as well as Firefox). Ideally I'd like the application to be more in-line with Gnome design, using a headerbar, but I realize this would be larger thing, and may not be desirable in a third-party application…

  6. Make the loading screen match the user's theme colour.

    Hi!

At the moment, no matter which theme you have selected (dark, light), the startup / loading screen is white with blue logo.

My eyes adapt slowly to such strong shifts in brightness, and I would love it if would respect my preferences and be dark if a dark theme was selected.

I posted this as an issue on GIthub, but was asked to move it here: https://github.com/mattermost/desktop/issues/985

  9. Chronological message stream over all channels

Sometimes I read a message in one channel, get desturbed and get more messages in other channels. Later I want to go back to the first message, but cannot remember/find the channel anymore. In this case it would be handy to have a view of all messages from all channels in chronological order.

  10. Channel Creator Info for Desktop & Web App

While the Mattermost Mobile app has the feature of tapping on the channel header to see more information that includes who created the channel and the date:

"Created by XXX on XXX XX, XXXX"

Users have to scroll all the way to the beginning of the channel for desktop and web app. This will be challenging especially for channels that have a lot of content.

It will be great if we can have similar feature for desktop and web app as well where users can click on the channel header > view info and show the same information.

  11. mention a channel with #

On different chat software you can mention a channel. For example: #test. If you click on the #test, you will go to that channel. I miss this feature in the app right now so I think this will be very useful.

  12. Allow users to define their preferred language, and display it on their profile resume

When opening a conversation with a colleague you dont know in a worldwide company, it isnt possible to know what is their prefered language. As a result, all conversations start with so you prefer that language or that language ?

If preferred language gets added in users' profiles, and gets displayed when openint an empty private conversation, talking to colleagues you dont know will become less awkward

  13. Control who's able to DM other members and who's not

Control the group members DM option with other members, maybe a new role that can only send messages in channels ?
This would be a great feature to increase security given some companies sensitive infos that shouldn't circulate around or just to stop any and all unneeded and unverified rumors from spreading privately

  14. Discard "New Messages" annotation by pressing Esc

The "New Messages" annotation stays on even when the chat continues/the message is answered. I would prefer if it disappears when I answer, or if that is on purpose to at least have the possibility to discard the annotation by pressing the Esc button.

  15. Add markdown support to attachment.footer

Currently markdown supported on post.text and attachment.text. I suggest to add support markdown to attachment.footer. It would be useful for migration from slack, where some bots and serivces use attachment.footer for adding navigation URL. For example, Grafana alert manager.

  16. For Message Display>Compact, Colorize usernames, update to use color blind friendly colors

I really like the compact message display view. I use the "Colorize usernames" option, but the use of red and green for the usernames is difficult for me as I'm color blind. I understand that the contrast between red and green is great for non-color blind users, but it's super difficult for the color blind. This blog post gives some good suggestions as to colors that will be easy to distinguish between for the color blind: https://www.tableau.com/blog/examining-data-viz-rules-dont-use-red-green-together#:~:text=Use%20a%20colorblind%2Dfriendly%20palette%20when%20appropriate&text=For%20example%2C%20blue%2Forange%20is,blue%20to%20someone%20with%20CVD. Thank you ;) Love mattermost!

  17. Improve reaction list in webapp/desktop to the same degree as in mobile

In the mobile app, when I long-press the reactions area, I can see the list of all reactions and all people who have reacted with those reactions. I can also tap on the reactors which gives me the option to mention them, or send them a DM.

Such a thing is not available in webapp/desktop, there is only a tooltip on hover, which does not really work as an actual list of reactions.

I propose to improve this so that this feature - a true list of reactions which can be interacted with - is present in webapp/desktop as well.

  18. Feature Request: Mass unfollow threads

Mattermost gets laggy when there you are following many threads. To the point that opening the "threads" tab fail to load with timeout errors. See github issues below:
    https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost/issues/23690#issuecomment-2611855763

This is true to people that have been using mattermost for a while now, we have been using it for 6 years and using collapsible threads since they are in beta.

Being able to mass unfollow all past threads will fix this.

I have tried disabling threads in the whole organization and re-enabling it but it didn't remove the follows.

If there's any backend/sql command i could run that would be…

  19. Bulk actions for drafts (i.e., delete)

I guess I'm an indecisive typer, but I regularly find myself having to empty out my entire list of drafts (from thread replies, in particular) on the desktop app. And since these are scoped to each 'team' I've joined, I have to do it N times.

A way to 'select all' (+ maybe unselect those drafts I want to keep) and delete them would be great! Thank you beforehand!

  20. Show emoji in Thread view as you do in Channel view

    SUPER EASY FEATURE / FIX
In the Threads list, show the emoji that are on the first message of the thread just like you get in Channel view.

We use threads as key topics of discussion, many are related to things that need to get done. When complete, we mark the first message in the thread with green check. We also use it to report bugs by marking the first message in a thread with the bug emoji. We have several emoji use cases for different purposes across different departments.

For some reason, the emoji is missing in the Threads…
